No, its a new maxtor drive.

Its a common mistake where just because someone formats a hdd, it doesnt mean that the mbr (master boot record) is erased.

Go online for a program that will delete the hdd completely.



Im willing to bet that will fix the problem.

fdisk it, delete the partitions on a low level

A low level format can actually harm the drive if its an older drive.. Its suppose to be used as a last resort before anything.



Ive got a boot disk with Tools that comes with a new Western Digital drive but the tools work just the same.



Just copy the files onto a new boot disk

Just unzip the files onto a blank disk, should make it a boot disk and startup with the tools etc

"fdisk /mbr" is the undocumented master boot record eraser for fdisk. im not sure if you can say like "fdisk /mbr 1" for HDD1 or "fdisk /mbr 2" for HDD2. to be safe, just run it with only the drive installed that you want to erase the boot record on. when you run that it wont say anything (no error means it ran).



to find the exact model number of the board, just look at it. it's usually printed on it somewhere.

You have to run a low-level format on any NT OS to totally uninstall those OS's. I never had a problem with my WD's and low-level formats.
