What I want to know know is why the hell do fighter classes suck so much and why armor class means nothing.
26 armor class /paladin and the green dragon still hits the hell out of me and I miss him a lot.
Isn't paladin supposed to be a fighter? Why am i running from the jolly green dragon so much then?!

i thought spell casters were supposed to suck at low levels and fighters were supposed to be good?
seems like spell casters are good from the beginning and fighters stay sucky

okay...I think (not sure, but...)the magic classes get a big jump in the beginning because their spells do so much damage. Granted, they have to wait around for SP regen, but that really doesn't take too long to worry about. At higher levels (where AC matters more?) the druid's ac is still going to be crappy and he'll have to use more SP on healing and so on. The mage has armor spells but no healing, so it's kind of the same boat for them.
Next, you're level 8, you should go get your quest weapon, and also the blackened platemail. These will probably make your char a lot better.
Last, if you're basing your character off of caps you see by ray, remember he has pretty much EVERY good magic item in the game, which isn't available to everyone, so it's probably not too great of a comparison.

i used to have a paladin too. I figured maybe i didnt give them a chance the first time, or things have changed, but seems they still suck

still...you should upgrade your eq :) i had a gladiator that could make mincemeat of the dragon at level 8
