Over LAN BBS [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Ok...As some of you know, I just got my network ICSd....NOW what I need, is to figure out how someoen from outside the LAN can access one of my BBS' on one of the other computers that aren't directly on the connection.



If anyone can help me out, I would be much obliged, and may even let some of yous guys in on it to test my realm as I work on it ;)

You need to get an ICS connection editor do-dad.. and foward the telnet port to the IP addy of the machine you are hostin the BBS on.... I don't remember the name of the program... but its an ICS program...

what u need is a copy of windows xp pro... i never heard of the ICS doo-dad but a proxy server would do what u wanna do... and winxp will let u do it in your network connections settings...

Only problem is if your cable company doesnt want you running services they'll see that port wide open on your network allowing incomming traffic.

There is an 'I'nternet 'C'onnection 'S'haring program that opens up ports and forwards them to certain IP addresses... I don't remember what the program is called, but it works quite well cuz my friend and I can play direct IP games through his ICS at home :)

Ok, if someoen can tell me where to get that program...I won't be going to XP cuz its bad enuf this stupid comp (which isn't mine) is running ME and I'm still waitin on win2k couxetoxcough

Just get a cable/dsl internet gateway/router, unless you have dial up of course.

They are cheap now and it takes the load off the computer that is having to run ICS.

That way you can route a certain port to go to a different port on the specified internal ip address. Like someone could connect on 2300 and connect to your telnet server on port 23 in reality.

Also gives you a very nice firewall.

Linksys has some good ones now, I think they have one with built in VPN server and one with VoIP(voice over IP). Great stuff.

Mr Black - I think the name of that proggy is called ICSCFG... that is for 98se ics and its 10 bucks... i also say a proggy called cb_PMM Port-Mapping-Monitoring 1.1... looks like thatll also do what u wanna for 33 bucks (or astalavista).. saw both at download.com personally i dont think ics is worth it.. get yourself a software proxy or a router.. all you really want is portmapping.. and i stand by WINXP PRO... havent had any problems with it and the networking features are sweet..
