gala, you know most times i'm right up there to flame with you, but this might actually be a good idea. Obviously metro has far too much on their hands right now, so having us get some work in while we wait for their slow asses might be a good change. I don't care who uses it, just kinda a cool thought.
If you HAVE to turn this into a flame thread tho, how about we flame someone else? Miles has one going already, and I'm truthfully a bit tired of that. Pick a new person to roast and I'm in.

I'm trying to do something to advance the community here, so please (I'm asking nicely here) don't spam up the topic with irrelevent stuff.

Ya like sheep? You sick bastard! Miles was one thing, but sheep too. I hate sheep, I wish that damn Chupacabra dude would suck all the blood from every sheep and leave the lil goats alone. How could anyone like sheep in the world, it is just wrong I tell ya!!!
There, feel better Demo?
On a serious note:
What language or script was major mud written in?
C and C++ muds (diku, merc, rom, circle, smaug etc.) have been sharing code snippits and area files for years. I have never looked at MajorMud or worldgroup bbs code but it wouldn't seem that hard to share code snippits, spell, weapon, mob, area and mprog files in a similar way if you have an open source code you work with like most other net muds do.
Just a little bit of work to make it like a patch file and a recompile could even insert the desired snippit (moron proof). That would be a MAJOR plus for people starting new muds... the 'old timers' of edited MajorMud 'oping could basicly set the mud up, bug and hassle free for newbies one time, then just point to the correct snippit for all the newbie ops that come later to use as their hassle free base.
If dealing with a common code base like C or C++ an existing OLC (on-line-creation) could probably even be adapted to let interested players ad to the world with there own range of numbers (vnums) while just signed on through telnet. Other, 'nonMajorMud' mud snippits even, may be adaptable without a whole lot of work to run smoothly inside a MajorMud game. *shrug*
All just really depends on the MajorMud/WorldGroupBBS code you all are stuck with.
*ponders* never really cared to deal with the bbs end so never explored majormud as a coder. Maybe I should some time, coded ever other mud base. The sharing you are talking about, here, has been a part of them (open source freeware) since the begining.
