Textboxes not showing all characters?!

I have no clue wtf just happened. My textboxes won't show certain characters, most specificly the linebreaks on things like textblocks. I don't believe it is NMR related because if i copy the text into notepad, the characters still don't appear. I haven't installed anything today except for a PocketPC app that has no desktop interaction. it also shows the escape characters on the ansi colors as arrows now. before it showed them the same as the linebreak character. so it seems it has trouble displaying the placeholders for characters the system/fonts cannot display.



the first textblock in mmud has nothing but 4 linebreaks by default. when i look at it in NMR, it's empty. but the character count, which goes solely off of the characters in the textbox (not the db or anything), says 1996 characters left (2000-4). if i put the cursor at the very beginning of the block and then press right 4 times, it drops down to the next line as if the characters were there. it's just not showing them.

just an update ... i changed the font the textbox uses to terminal and now it shows the characters correctly ... but is this something that other people have been experiencing before? anyone have an explanation as to why it would've worked all this time?
