this information should be up to date, correct? i mean it should be for the current version and whatever adjustments need to be taken. i mean who cares how to build a char for 1.11e like mudcentral.com has, right?

Yo, I couldn't reply to the tutorial post so here goes my tutorial...

Paladins...true knights in shining armour

So you want a character that deals hard blows while at the same time can heal, wear any armour/use any weapon, and perform light priestly duties? Then a paladin should be your choice of class.

Designing one with the right stats is tricky. Like what everyone else will tell you when you start a new character, "Put into consideration about what functions you want your character to have and/or perform now and in the future." and they are absolutely correct. So in the matters of a paladin, you have to ask yourselves the following questions...

The first obvious one is do you want a sneeker or not. Well here are the lay man's terms Pros and Cons.

1: With the upgrade to verision M, its all about the AC in this game. With the new enhanced plate armour and new plate armour items, you can be +100 ac no problem. Sneekers tho tend to have less capacity to carry armour than a non sneeker. Plus sneeking palis bs well in the first 30 levels, and then their bs begins to become pointless because you can smash, crit, and probably do higher rounds with a 2H weapon than a bs (depending on what weapon you have).

2: If your heavy into PVP (player vs. player) action, then a sneeker may or may not be your choice. You may want the function of a sneeker to sneek up to your enemies and either bs or smash them. Sneeker would be the choice if you have no care for ac and just want the Combat 5 bonus and the use of most any item in the game. If you wanna take the defensive on PVPs tho and to be well equipped with armour, than a non sneeker could be the better choice for their higher strength and HP.

Sneeking race choices...

Nekojin: Excellent for the PVPer. Nekos have the ability to track, night vision, excellent agility for more swings, and very good strength for a sneeker. The cons are the low health (which can be made up by the high HP alloted per level) and the high experience chart.

Dark-Elf: Excellent for just a basic sneeker. High stealth, high NV, crit and accuracy bonuses, better health than Nekojin, and decent strength for a sneeker. Cons are high exp chart (5% less than neko), the decent strength is a con if you wanna wear nice armour. The 100 maxed strength of a nekojin is addequate for carrying most armour around.

Elf: Mana bonus given (and that counts in lower levels when you need it because Paladins get shafted on manna point alloted per level), high charm max which is good for those who like to crit. Cons are low health, decent strength (see above), and high exp chart.

Non-sneeking race choices...

Kang: By far, Kang would be my ultimate non-sneeker choice. They are very well balanced for any pali's main functions (except to sneak). Pros are high wisdom, poison immunity, 5 AC point added (because of your natural skin), high Int and Wis for extra manna & if you still wanna land most of your spells, high agility, and decent charm to help you with those crits. High int, wis, and agility are something that most non-sneekers lack. Cons are you have no night vision. Now if you were a ranger, theres a starlight spell that can take care of you, so if you like the kang's stats, but don't wanna lug a lantern around or don't have easy access to a skull mask, chooose a ranger. If you still like the Pali concept, you can get by on a carved ivory mask for sight or some items that give off illu. Another choice would be getting a golden broadsword if your starting out or raising a character with mage spells so they can make you light balls. Another con would be that kangs can carry alot with their strength and are well balanced for Pali's. But if your a gung-ho heavy armour wearer, you might wanna consider another race that will have a better time with holding up a good amount of encumberance.

Half-ogre (aka HOG): One of the two excellent choices for heavy armour carrying races. HOGs have max strength and health than any other race in the realm, so your crits, smashes, and regular rounds will hurt! Also with the high strength, your encumberance capacity will be very high. The high health combined with the high HP allotment per level will fair you well in any battle. HOGs get an extra 2 AC points and have +15 Magical Resistance. To top it off though, HOGs add 30 exp to your chart, so getting levels will come much quicker than 3with the other choices. Cons are you get gypped on every other stat. The low int and wis are paiinful on landing spells at first, but once you max them out, spellcasting improved to tolerable levels. The low agility will hurt you regardless and the low charm will hurt your crits somewhat. In later levels, when you max your charm as a pali, you will still crit nicely, but not as frequently unless you had more charm. And yes, as a HOG you have no night vision, so you have to come up with a light source.

Dwarf: The other choice of heavy armour carriers. Dwarfs right off the bat get a 20% encumberance bonus. They have high wis which will help in your magic resistance, perception, and spellcasting. But best of all, they have night vision!!! On top of that they have +10 magical resistance and their exp chart is not as high. The cons are they have 110 maxed strength which is less than a HOG or Kang so your blows won't hit as hard, but at least better than any sneeker can.

Gnome: This would be an ideal choice if you have more than one character and want a paladin to lead your party while scripting. Gnomes have pretty well balanced stats. On top of the great stats, they can pick locks, have nightvision, and even +5 magical resistance. On the experience chart, they only add a low %20. Cons: Even though they have 90 strength (not quite the strength level you would expect from a non-sneeker.

In my experience, when I started playing mud again after a 5 year hiatus from version g to version i (don't quote me on that), I read every class's description and went with a paladin. I decided to make him a sneeker because the person that helped me was big on BSing. My race of choice was Dark-Elf because most Mud fans quote that Delfs are the choice of sneekers. I did fairly well in the beginning levels. Never survived being pvped, but held my own very well while scripting. Around the mid 20s, I got a level 35 bard off someone. The baric travel spell helps alot to increase your encumberance in order to carry more or heavier armour. When version M came out, I hit level 40. I was so excited because being 40 opens you up to all these other armour that I can put on. Since AC was everything I tried to get the best. Currently I managed to have 101 AC!!! The draw back is: I'm too heavy to move anywhere without my bard because of my low strength. So I removed the last piece of armour I added, an Aegis shield. With that off I just break even with encumberance and am down to 85 AC. The heaviness hurts my acc but I still deal heavy smashes, crits, and semi good bses. I could do better if I were one of the non-sneekers because of my extra strength. BSing now to my character is pointless because I do better normal rounds than bses. But the good thing is, I can still sneek away from a bad situation. My decision for Delf was mixed, but I still feel unbalanced because being heavy hurts. If you don't believe me and your a high leveled sneeking paladin, head to the arena naked and try your weapon on the dummy. The difference will amaze you.

If I could choose a non-sneeking race, it would be kang. Kangs are born to be paladins and/or rangers, though I've had great luck building a Kang Druid. Kangs have exceptional balance with handling the Paladin class. The only big drawback is the lack of night vision.

Some last minute tips...

If you are a sneeker starting from 0 exp and broke as a joke, there is no need to buy all the bulky and expensive armour. Start out with leather: its light and has pretty decent AC for a beginner.

Also try to always have your normal weapon a 2H wep for harder blows. But if enc is an issue, get a bs wep that you can efficiently use for a normal wep.

Need more AC, try a shield

Stat-wise: You wanna focus first and foremost on your strength to wield better weapons and hold better armour. Sneakers, use leather for the first 10 or so levels and work on your int for better stealth and your wis for SC. NOn-sneekers, go strenth and wis. You have to have a list of stats to prioritize what gets what first. It should go Strength, wis, health, agil, int, and charm. Agil is verry important to get many of those hard blows instead ofjust one or two.

Lemme kno what you think of this

ninja

ninjas are pretty dope. . they do the most damage of any class in the game, except maybe ranger with that sweet ass dusk of theirs. ninjas are also good at surprise rounding on scripts. they can pick locks and disarm traps which is always handy (atleast someone in your party should), and backstabs are useful for numbers of reasons, low level boss kills, pvp, stationary boses, whatever. some people play tank ninjas. theyre idiots. ninjas must be handsome to excel at their arts. so id play a elf or nekojin. nekojins get that nexus spear plus whatever 100 str weps are out there. elves are just stronger if you ask me, more crits, what can i say. alot of douche bags think darkelves are better than elves. put it this way. youre losing 10 starting charm and willpower all for that extra 5 starting strength. then for what? the little extra night vision? nope. +1 crits? the 10 charm makes up for that. and what about that 3 accuracy... tahts about as useful as the 10 mana your new ninja will have. so it all boils down to 10 health and shitty starting stats or 10 charm. when youre makign exp, defense and hp regeneration are what counts, not how many total hp you have. you can either have an extra 40 hp at level 50ish, and get it back just as damn slowly when youre istting there resting, or be an elf and dodge a few extra hits so youre on your feet swinging at shit a bit more. plus, the extra dodge will save some of the healer bitchs mana thats following you around. (youre gonna need one, i prefer a nice kang cleric, and maybe a neko or elf bard tagging along ;p )

half orcs are okay, 110 str is nice for ssgs and you get the low exp table. goblins are alright if you want to try something different (and be bitter when youre not as good as an elf) gaunts are good if you want see hidden (the days of backstab pvp are dead though :< ) halflings are a cool respectable race to play. if you want to be one, do it. some people play hogs. i think they suck. they have no dodge, do worse damage than elves, just have alot of hp which they lose fast as fuck because of the shit defense. show me a good hog, and ill show you an elf that kills him faster.

level 1 youre gonna wanna raise strength and charm a bit, give yourself a bunch of agility, and raise health just a little bit. people tend to go overboard with health anymore. i think its a little overrated. id try to sneak and get the locket, get some cash, buy a shuriken, and bs the hell out of the cave bear. dont bother with expensive silk gear (ac doesnt do anythign for ninjas anyway...) once you get level 10, you can switch to ebony ninjato. im not sure how indepth you need to be told to play a char, but by this time you should start knowing whats up. dont switch to a new weapon until your eqd with it, unless its really pimped out. youre just going want alot of agil and strength to dodge hits and swing your weapon fast. charm gives dodge and crits so keep that up too. the other 3 stats are the losers. the dodge will keep you alive at low levels while other silk and leather classes are suffereing. basically, the main goal of a ninja (atleast nowadays) is to get a big ass 2 handed wep on you, eqd, with all the ninja +crit/damage gear- and keep him alive. if you succeed in this, youll outdamage pretty much anything with alot of consistancy.

and if youre pvping, dont neglect willpower. try not to fight anyone straight up, instead, let off surprise rounds on their scripts (sneak in, bs with a weapon that cant backstab, or sneak ing, backstab, run in out out before the round lets off). after tehy come looking for you, hide like a little girl :D ... unless they really suck or arent a tank/mag3

your gear should eventually look like this

silvery skullcap/golden headdress (skullcaps got some accy, but poison res tends to kill it)

white gold ring / adamantite ring

platinum ring (not good? cant get plat ring? id prolly use mithril 4th)

mithril earrings (cobras are gay)

golden braided belt/midnight sash (lionskin if you really want it, its trash if you ask me)

deaths shadow

spider silk trousers

shining metallics/black dragon robes (damage is good on bdr, but the 25 dodge is hot as well-sst has 10 dodge if you cant get either... black stained tunic is always interesting)

diamond-studded bracelet (10 mres is handy sunstone if youre not mod 9 ready, esb if youre a bitch)

black dragon tabi

black velvet gloves (if you cant get either of these, dont even bother putting something else on, ac does nothing)

tiger claw necklace (ruby is decent too if you dont need the dodge, cats eye if you cant get either)

platinum bracers (kote if you cant get it)

some weapon suggestions

1-9 shiruken

10-19 ebony ninjato, poisoned shiruken

20-29 blades of balance, JAL, holy avenger, adamantite katana etc

30-39 ICF daikatana few othesr im sure im forgetting, these are the major 2 though

40- nexus chaky, flaming scim.... i dunno, test it out, if it works then use it

50 youre going to want a big 2 hander to go with your 50% crits now ;p ssgs if you have 110 str, is definitely the way to go. nexus spear is cool as well, little slow for awhle. you also have the 3 2h's from mod 9 quest, which are ridiculous, especially so for the poor goblins and halflings

dragonfang ninjato is okay, hellblades prolly still better for 1 handers. you could f around with bleeding main.

i bet someone does somethign interesting with a nightblack scythe eventually. blessed up could make for some crazy rounds.

im sure im missing a bunch of weapons. its kinda late. ill edit this with whatever else i remember.

happy hunting

i have a question for mr black on his druid stats: why waste anything into agil until your about level 30-35? for the picklocks? what ive found is the int being high will make up for the agil being low.

Well being a sneeking Pali, like my Delf is makes it hard to wear the nice thick plate. With neko, your health is at the disadvantage but with the heain and the high hp per roll you can wing it. I would stick to leather till lvl 10, leather/chain at 20, chain/plate till 30, plate till 40 and then try to score yourself some lunar chainmail when u can get a buddy to head to the bone warriors. And finally, if you can get a ticket to Arlysia and pay Ozzy a visit, you can score yourself the Scarlet Doublet. I had a guy that was lvl 60 neko pali (rolled his cleric to a neko pali at 64ish) and he was pimpin a jew with the doublet. it was a sweet char. Too bad he got suspended for dumbass reasons.

to all of you that posted, we're still working on organizing everything. I've been working overtime these past few weeks and xetox and kix disappeared off the face of the planet so things got put on hold for a while.
