New DVD Drive Problems! [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by Necrosaro420 »

I just bought a new 16x dvd drive from compusa. Well I have it installed. The intro/warning screen starts to play on the dvd. Itll play for about 10 seconds or so then lag for about 2 or 3 seconds, and just keeps doing that over and over. And also, I usualy cant even get to the menu of the dvd to play the movie. Ive tryed WMP, WinDVD 4.0, PowerDVD, ect ect all 3 do the same thing. Im running a P4 1.8ghz, 512 ddr pc2100 ram, GeForce4 Ti4200 card. And it still lags. I remember the last dvd drive I had, which was in a different computer, it did the exact same thing for some reason. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Alot =)

Might alos wanna check to see if you got the latest drivers for it. Also, did you install the SW that came with the DVD drive? Might alos want to check to see if the IDE bus is EIDE or EIDE2 it may require a MB bios upgrade, or simply purchase a separate EIDE/2 controller for it. Might also open up Performance monitor and see what resources are in use when playing the movie to see if memory or processor is thrashing. is alot of things to check, and my experience has generally pointed to problems like this being HW incompatibility, or drivers, followed by SW config or incompatibility.

Its a mad dog 16x entertainer. The software that came with it is just some shitty software. It doesnt have any drivers for the drive itself on the cd, or that were made according to mad dogs website. Its on the 2nd ide with my other cd drive.
