So, I would like to hear people's thoughts on having ranged combat, to allow to shoot a projectile out of the room. I can see this causing a few problems and don't know if the benefits would outweigh this.

A few of the problems that I think would need to be adressed are:

1. Being able to basically kill steal from the next room. Just shoot a monster in the next room from relative safety while someone else is doing the work.

2. Monsters that don't move would be easy and abuseable targets.

3. Ability to sit in a safe room/no monster room and attack monsters would be lame.

4. Making sure you can't shoot someone that is sitting in a safe room, like the bank.

5. Monsters would have to be able to recognize they are being attacked from a distance and move to engage the character in the next room.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

This has been widely discussed and the general agreement tends to be that majormud is just not conducive to such an ability as it would require major overhaul of most of majormuds basic systems. Granted some people seem to think it would be possible to implement such a system, but it would require work that I doubt anyone is ever going to be willing to do.

I didn't see a thread in here specifically for this topic, so I decided to start one. Nor have I seen a great amount of discussion on it in these forums, so I just wanted to get a feel for what the general consesus is regarding this subject.

I really don't see it as being suitable for mud, but I figured if there was a great demand for it, we could start brainstorming how to make it feasable.
