Fresh install WG 3.3

And everything seems to be going well until the very end. The install shield promises there is just one more program to run, WGSINST, and the bbs will be set up.
The shield closes, and a small dos-looking box opens. Then, the dos-looking box dissapears. And thats about it.
If I click on any of the icons from the start menu, I get a half a second of hourglass time and then my computer acts like nothing ever happened.
At least if I had an error code I could have a hint. Has anyone seen something like this before?

You need to enter your registration key, it default comes with a demo one. If you dont enter a valid key the galgsbl.dll file will conflict with whats entered into the windows registry.

:wallbang:
I get it now, this is because I have no idea what my registration number is, right? I guess I've been punching in random activation codes and expecting the software to start screaming at me if I messed up.

i've seen this just happen randomly. what OS is this? try end-tasking WGSINIT and/or WGSERVER and/or WGSAPPGO if WG fails to load, and then try running it again.

Looks like I needed to do that very part of the FAQ that everyone in that thread said was uneccessary. I'll be back in a day or two probably to get help with NMR, homework permitting. :) After that, I'll shut up and try to make some mods to share. I've been inspired by the spell fix.

I actually had to go into that galgsbl.dll file to find my registration number. A lot of people on the FAQ and my friend who was installing last night as I was didn't have to do that part, but my server wouldn't go up until I did and adjusted the REG# accordingly in the utility.
Unfortunately, the spell mod install seems to have not gone so well. My MUD doesn't have any monsters, shops, items or NPCs. I wonder, is it time to start re-installing stuff?
(PS: Thanks for the help, especially the whole NMR thing, et al)
{[Re-Installing now]}
This is fun, and not *that* frustrating (yet)... :hehe:

I wonder, is it time to start re-installing stuff?sounds to me like you didn't even test the mud before editing it. don't throw in the seasonings without preping the sauce. i assume you didn't follow the v1.11o fresh install guide (http://www.forumshq.com/showthread.php?t=6436) (sticky in this forum) because it would appear that you have a corrupted room database.

what whole NMR thing?

Dude, why would anyone read the instructions until they were sure it was broken?! Looks solid now, time to add the pepper!!
Haven't run a bbs since a Telemate 2.x on a 2400 with custom ansi LORD menus...And I'm having a ridiculous amount of fun right now...
I'm sure I don't sound too coherent, I"m just too excited to F' up the editing part. Maybe I'll read all the sticky posts first this time instead of 2 or 3.
