Putting WG 1.0-DOS onto the internet

i've recently aquired in part a former local bbs that was pretty big back in the day. everything was hooked up via modem and boca boxes. it was Worldgroup for dos v1.0 or maybe 1.1 .. i don't have the server with me at the moment.
so the problem at hand is: i want to get it on the internet, without having to purchase worldgroup for windows. i already own the DOS version and would like to make it telnettable if possible.
so i saw that the bbs had something called i think: Major Internet/Gateway disabled. is this something i could use? i am aware of Vircom Major TCP/IP. besides that, im in the dark.
what exactly would i need to purchase, install, and/or configure to get this thing on ther network. i can get a dos nic card.
in the hardware configuration, when you select LAN as a channel it allows you to select 3 different things. IPX Direct, IPX virtual, or SPX. im not familar with any of these. i've run my own bbs as 1 line dial up, and multi line telnet for years and like to think i know a lot about it, but i know NOTHING about this area of it.
could anyone lend a hand with this? any answers would be greatly appreciated. This bbs hasn't been dialed into since 1997, and i'm GREATLY looking forward to getting this bbs back up for public use. If anyone here is from new orleans, the word Cyberbase will ring a huge bell.
