Anyone know what's required for a blank world? [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Ok, so for the few of you following my troubles, I am able to get my edits and everything to work, provided I do them on top of the existing default mud, but as soon I start working with blank DBs, it just shits. For anyone curious of the error, refer to this thread (http://mmb.forumshq.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=153) or this one (http://mmb.forumshq.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=152).
I have the required rooms in and have tried getting it to load under a variety of situations: with roughly 100 rooms, all referencing monsters/items I made, along with handfuls of races and classes and the appropriate text blocks for titles (and messages for monsters/items). I've also tried it with just the required rooms and nothing else, or with just one race, class, monster, etc, and nothing. I've tried it with user accounts and without, and generally have tried everything I could think of.
I'm left now thinking there's certain required spells/monsters/something that it doesn't complain about (like it does rooms) but can't figure it out.
Has anyone else tried getting a mud based on blank DBs to work, and if so, what happened? It'd be a lot nicer starting from scratch than trying to figure out what I can and can not delete from the "normal" DBs, since I don't want anything from then anyway.
Anyone?

I'm having the same problems you are. I have roughly 150 rooms created, including all the 'required' ones. It doesn't ask for the required rooms anymore, but now it's saying something like CNF error ... can't read from FFFFFF or something like that. I posted for help in the LJN forum, but no one has answered yet. Maybe we can see about helping each other or something.

Boy, is this forum dead or what. I guess I'll try to figure it out on my own.

Just thought I'd log in again to see if there'd been any developments while I took some time away from messing with mud, and it looks like no one knows how to get a blank mmud running still. Damn.
Oh well.

First off...the FFFFFF error is most likely from not having anything in either the spells/monster/item files.
I have started a new realm, have over 800 rooms on 9 diff maps so far...When I began, I got the FFFFFF error from having completely blank mons/spell/item files. I replaced those files (and accidently overwrote some edits in my monster file forgetting it wasnt blank) and that fixed that error. So, from what I could tell, as long as you have something in those files...you won't have that problem.
As for sennis' errors, I couldn't look em up cuz thojse links goto the old forums addy, and aren't there anymore ;)
If you could redescribe the errors, I can prolly help ya out...firstly tho, perhaps check if your dll is cracked to remove the update file...that could cause some probs...otherwise, I can't help ya without anymore info.

Hmm...ya know, I'll give that a whirl, making sure some of the files aren't blank, I mean. I don't recall ever trying that.
As for the error, here it is:
C:\wgserv\wgserver.exe - Access Violation. Attempt to read from: 4
That's what it's doing now, so I'll try and pop in some stuff into any blank files and see what happens. Wish me luck.
Edit: It's been cracked, and I don't have any blank files, aside from users or gangs. All of the core editable files (races, classes, spells, etc) have something. Oh well. It's probably not a good time for it to all start working anyway, life being in the way and all.
Thanks anyhow. Maybe I'll start over again with mod 9 when the Nightmare is out.
