As of late, my administrators disabled telnet somehow throughout the whole district, disabling anyone to use telnet... without enabling it, is there ANY way to go around it? like get another program that can connect or something? dialup is outta the question... tell me whatchas thing, I doubt there's another way, but I'm sorta hoping I'm wrong here...

The admin on your network is who I'm assuming your talking about, right?

Well, did you actually try going to Run... and type telnet (addy)?

Some admins are stupid and only disable the links or move programs...

If they actually took telnet from the comp, you could use the dos telnet (dependin on ver of OS) OR you could go use hyperterminal, thats a good telnet program. That too shoulda came with some vers of windoze. If not, go install it (but your admin may have disabled that, they are dicks like that sometimes)

Anyway, hope that helped some ;)

Yeah.. what MrBlack said.. and:

They could have disabled outgoing traffic on port 21 (default telnet port). If, that's the case you actually still have a few options. You can still telnet to other places as long as the port isnt 21 ;). You can also use a java telnet client. Of course, megamud (which i assume is the reason you are telnetting) won't be able to work. Finally, if you have a shell access account, you can telnet into the shell (on a different port) and then telnet out to your bbs . This last option could definitely work if megamud would actually support SSH :). SSH uses a different port so unless the admins blocked this too, you can use that.

Last, maybe this is a sign that you should just give up mud!!. I've been mud-free for months now and man.. let me tell you... i feel greeeeeeat.

peace.

duuude.. just give up majormud! :-p

There's a whole world beyond stank rank majormud!

bah!

Anyways, a "shell" account is simply a unix account that you can telnet into. You will be at a command prompt of a unix (or linux, etc..) account. You can pretty much do anything, provided you have the permission, from there.

But still... most shell accounts use port 21 ;)

Unless you know the admin, then you can change it... OR.. i just thought of something.. set up a linux box at home where *you* are the admin! muhahahha

You can then open like port 3247 for your telnets!! eeeeeeeeevil.
