hi. i get this error at completly random times it seems



BTRIEVE UPDATE ERROR 80 ON FILE ".\WCCUSER2.DAT"



i searched around the forums here already to see if this has been asked and i didnt see anything.



the bbs crashes of course.. it just happened out of the blue. my exp is hex edited for only a couple of things, and i havent edited in weeks. im not sure what could be causing this...

ps -i have done the posted btrieve tweaks, a few weeks ago. i didnt backup before i did it so i cant restore to default if i need to. i guess id have to re-install bbs then copy mud back to it

The Update or Delete operation was not performed. When using Btrieve with DOS, Windows, or OS/2, this status code is returned when another application changes the record on the data page from which you originally read the record that you wanted to update or delete. In NetWare Btrieve, this status code is returned when the record that you originally read has been changed by another application since you read it. Your application should reread the record prior to reseeding an Update or Delete operation.





...sounds like you need to restore a backup of your user file. did it crash for some other reason before you got that message? like a power outage or anything?

my computer locked up (megamud) the other day. had to turn power off



the only backup i have is what happens at cleanup and it overwrites itself so my copy is bad



maybe i could try starting fresh (renaming the .vir or however..) and use nightmare to export my user database with my accounts in it and import it into the fresh database.. think that might work?

actually it looks like i cant import the user database. hm well i guess i can manually hex edit any chars i need to into a fresh dat. although it would probably take a little while.

did not work the first couple of times i tried it. so i had to take off the arguments to put the date on there. oh well :)

for the record, i fixed this problem last night. i went to worldgroup offline utilities and ran the utility to fix .dat files. i think its called bbsridx and says something like "re-establish file integrety if questionable".
