I've been having this for a few days.. For apparently no reason whatsoever, the board would drop all the users and the server would start freezing.. freeze for 30 seconds, mouse could move for like 3, then freeze for 30 again.. do this several times then it would stop freezing, and the net wouldn't work anymore 'till i rebooted... i remember being attacked on WinMX when I would log on because someone thought i should have stayed on more than a week sending him this file, and it had the same effect on my box (the freezing and loss of net connectivity)...



the only connection a few of my users have noticed is when they're doing name validation creating a majormud account is when they say it happens..



But really, I have no idea.. Anyone?



note: on my audit trail last time it crashed it just shows people logging on doing normal shit like menu selectoins.. then 2 entries of TCP/IP ERROR - SEND error 10054 (port 23) Connection reset by peer



which... i've seen a billion times unless my memory is fucking with me..

talked to one of these guys i know who's in computer repair because really he digs this stuff.. and he told me it sounds like a hardware or driver problem since it's happened other times with other programs in other different situations.. so i'm updating all of my drivers and applying windows patches and whatnot..

and it is official, it likes to crash when your name is being validated in majormud

nevermind, scratch it.. deleting it all.. registry entries.. making everything fresh.. seeing as i haven't done that yet.

let me know when it's working right, I'm lookin forward to trying to kick some legit ass.

I was logged on directly and it happened again.. Only, the BBS didn't crash, just the net connection.. I was still logged on the BBS locally.. so, Im trying to update the firmware on my network card.. only thing i can imagine is the fast spinning/rewriting action is fucking my network card!?? hahahaha fucking doesnt make any sense at all but whatever

This seems to be something I just realized in the windows event log to be right about the time of each and every network crash from the very first one to the one where i realized that it was just network and nothing else

aaaaaaaaaaanother note --

only seems to happen when people on dialup get to that spinning character in mud name validation.. ive had 3 people on wide open broadband sign up, then 1st person on dialup that tries to sign up, BOOM.. network connection dies

did you reinstall everything fresh yet? 'cause judging by that event log message, it sounds like not all of your dll's and registry settings are registered.

yeah so much stuff i fucked with i fucked up some stuff... but, the problem that was dominating everything i was dicking with turns out that it was in fact the network interface card (nic)... which is stupid... but whatever, i bought a new one and everything went very very very well.. better than before actually, slightly... either way, im reconfiguring a new install for the last time... but since i dont really feel i've opened yet the few who have been testing and re-signing up shouldn't care too much.....i hope =P
