i just thought of an idea that may make upgrading/reinstalling a million times easier. I could add a field onto each editor to flag a record as "edited". the flag would actually be stored in a separate database that i could create in each datfile path. then when doing an export or an upgrade, you could simply say "export all 'edited' records" and then import them all after an upgrade. i could make it so you could generate reports and such of all the edited records too. best thing of all, i don't think it'll be that hard to do :).

woo hoo, I like that idea syn. easier record keeping and import/export is the way to go. (especially with these quicker dll releases)

I agree, it would be a nice addition, especially if you edited a legit item, that way you can keep the items flagged for future exporting, good job.

the only problem i've thought of while thinking about it more over the past few days is my original idea of just storing the database in the same folder as the dats wont work. a lot of people edit in a few different directories i wouldn't want to make it a issue to have to remember to copy nightmares database. but i can't really think of a better way just yet.

You could store the dat in the nmr directory, or save a copy to there as well as in the same directory as their edits..less chance of someone losing it when moving around their edited files in either case.

well it's more of a concern for having a consistant/accurate database for a realm with the files being in multiple locations. what i'm thinking is i'd have to make like groups or something similar. when you load file from a path you would associate the path with a group. the group would then be associated with a database. you would create groups for each mud or realm.
