Ok so Heres the situation.

Its a Fat32 formatted Hard drive. Windows XP was running its form of ChkDsk and it froze up durring the last part where its writing info to the disk. I came here and talked about it some time ago and was told to plug it into a Win2k machine to get access to it. Nothing happened when i did that. I was askin a friend what else it could be and he mentioned the partition.

Anyone care to explain this to me seeing as im fairly computer stupid and also how id go about fixing this. I need access to that Hard Drive for Records and Data so Reformatting is not an option.

Your partitions is what sorts out where all your data is stored. Like your system critical files for FAT32 or NTFS. If the partition itself is shot then that may explain why you cant access the data. If thats the case then you'll need to repartition it. I would recommend making an MS-DOS boot disk and copying the file fdisk.exe to the floppy and running it under DOS mode to see if it picks up on the device,if it doesnt the drive itself could be shot.

If it does find it you'll be given the option to "Repartition" the drive. If you do repartition it make sure to also do a format of the drive as well, if you dont it wont be able to store data.

Have you tried getting another harddrive and installing an os onto it, and then try accessing the drive?

Please see above, thats usually a sign of a bad partition, if its shot then no ammount if clapping will bring the data back unfortunatly.

what you do is get a big magnet and place it on top of the HDD and wait less than a minute and remove. should clear up any problem!!!

j/k you could try finding a independent computer store to see if they have a way to get the info off. i worked at a shop and we would save all kinds of crap for people then load it on a new drive for them.
