I have a linksys wap router, with a 4 port switch. anyway, passive mode for ftp has never worked for me... i have port 21 forwarded to my computer behind the router, but it always times out during the connect using passive mode. am i missing something?



btw this is with every ftp server program i've run: serv-u ftp, bulletproof ftp server, worldgroup ftp server, default server for freebsd, raiden ftp server

well, duh, the File Transfer Protocol doesnt only operate on Port 21. Port 21 is the upload, Port 20 is the download port i believe. So i'm saying you prolly have to forward that Port 20 as well. good luck bitch :cigar:

I never had to forward any port but 21 to get my FTP server to work.

#1 behind a router? (assume yes)

#2 sure others were trying to use passive mode? sometimes IE (which is what a lotta ppl who don't use ftp very much use) does passive, sometimes it does port mode. (assume yes)

#3 of course you or anyone on your intranet wouldn't have a problem with it, because it's already behind the hardware firewall (assume they were not on intranet)



assuming all of those, i dunno why it would've worked. what ftp server, what router
