I had worldgroup working fine.. Now it accepts calls and drops them right away.. the users are getting a telnet error. what could have went wrong? for some reason my display of wg changed from the normal grey screen to the old blue console windows like MBBS used to have.. but i didnt make any changes.. this is really getting frustrating. I heard to get this stuff to work it should be easier. I know i have my router configured right. the ip in wg matches my machines ip. i have a dyndns updater that checks my dynamic ip regularly, i still have internet connectivity but things dont seem to want to work right. please.. help
I have a windows XP pro machine, running WG 3.3 and nightmare redux 1.42
anyone have an explination for the change in the console window?

LDAP - does that happen right when you first start loading WG up?
My WG accepts/drops calls up til it's done loading..and it doesn't drop them all..it let's some calls in, drops others..drops more than it lets in though, but eventually people get through. Once it's done loading up, that problem goes away.

i dont think it is accepting calls, but it should be. I have my router set to forward port 23. wg is running... so i am going to leave it run and see if anyone is on by the time i wake up... feel free to try and log on if you can.
still running majormud 1.1m
cleanup is at 3am
much more stuff going on later on in the bbs development
backups are made nightly.

Ok, here is what i found out so far....
There is a process called W32MKDE.EXE that seems to interrupt my internet connection along with a DLLHOST.EXE. when i end those processes my internet functions normally..
Now i sill cant accept telnet from other users outside my network. I have dyndns update running, I have my router set to forward port 23 to port 23 on the ip that has worldgroup running. all the channels in worldgroup are set to accept incoming calls My router is a Linksys BEFSR41 ver2 model and i have broadband dsl with msn using an arescom 800 modem. Im running windows XP professional. If anyone has any helpful information about those 2 exe's or any other info please let me know asap.. thanks!

heh, well, since W32MKDE.EXE and DLLHOST.EXE are btrieve files loaded for WG, it doesn't surprise me that your shit don't work when you end them.

the reason for that is because you gotta realize if you want to run a bbs it uses alot of bandwidth. Yes WG will make your internet on the rest of the network lag as most of the bandwidth usage is going to WG and the pc that has WG on it..

He shouldn't be losing packets like that. That would definately end up disconnecting users. Even WG shouldn't be taking up enough bandwidth (... especially with a small amount of users, if any) to be dropping packets to yahoo.com at a 92 ping. I'd actually start thinking this was a hardware issue. Perhaps the router, modem, or cables... Is it -only- when you load WG that you drop packets?
