anyone ever installed Be OS? I downloaded it from download.com, beos 5.0 personal edition or something, but I couldn't get it to work. i make a boot disk like it said, but when it would boot off the boot disk, it kept rebooting itself

supposedly, btw, Be incorporated went outta business and settled for some 7 figure agreement with microsoft. i'm not sure of the specifics, but not bad ;D

I've installed it in the past, it's a nice OS (a little dated now though). Most likely there is some unsupported hardware in your computer that is causing it to crash. Athlon/P4 CPUs for example are known to cause problems. There is an unofficial version of PE5 being maintained by the BeOS community that includes support for more hardware out of the box.

Also, from what I understand there is a company called yellowTAB who secured the rights to distribute BeOS before Be sold its assets to Palm and are continuing development of the OS where Be left off. They are currently predicting their first release towards the end of the year. I'll be interested in checking it out when it becomes available :)
