Ok heres the specs:

Abit KD7 (KT400)

Onboard VIA 6103 Rhine 10/100

Radeon 8500le 64mb

512megs Corasir PC3200

Maxtor 40gig 7200rpm Drive

XP 2700+ (1.8ghz)

U.S. Robotics Fax Winmodem

Heres the deal: I installed everything originally on Windows XP Pro edition and all devices including the modem seemed to install ok. But when i go into Control Panel to do a self diagnostic on the Winmodem it claims its "Not Functional" so i decided to try Win2k instead, same result. I have all the latest drivers for it and the hardware is present but its like its been disabled.

Also to note, It lists the devices in a listing prior to windows starting up, and it shows the device as not having an IRQ. Any ideas would be nice, sarcastic comments are unwelcome however. :hmm:

I Tried the following already:

Switched from ACPI to Standard PC.

Update drivers.

Switch OS.

Switch to a different PCI Slot.

Put it into a different PC (worked).

Updated my Hyperion 4in1 drivers.

Downloaded Service Packs.

do you know for sure that the modem itself is good? i have had problems in the past where i reformatted or something like that, and it is always the modem that dont work afterwards. (so i couldnt get online to figure out why, or d/l new drivers). i think i have like 15 modems in a box around here somewhere. i have no idea if they work or not. i would just buy a new one (10-15 bucks) and throw it in and it would be fine. then the next time around, i would repeat. always the modem tho. wish i could help ya out, but it sounds like youre gonna need a new modem.

i am so glad i havent had a modem installed in this PC in over 2 years. i dont miss it 1 bit.

sounds like you tried everything to me. modems are a bitch. sometimes they need to be on a certain IO and IRQ, but usually PCI cards have that dynamicly assigned. does the modem have any configurable jumpers maybe?

"U.S. Robotics Fax Winmodem" ... USR's (now owned by 3com) are the best (at least they used to be) modems you can get, usually around $60. you're prolly thinking of ZModems aka Zoom Modems. those are worst.

1) device listing like that is usually a bios only feature, in which case it usually doesn't pick up a pci card. (check bios settings)

2) it looks like the bios is picking up the card (if different than (1)) but not assigning an IRQ to the card. (check bios settings)

3) is there any conflict btwn that PCI slot and ANY other thing you have on your board, AGP, another PCI slot, anything. (looks like that was checked) but it also looks like that is the ONLY PCI card you have on the board, check another PCI card on that board too, just to be sure.
