Visual MajorMUD? Not likely... [Archive] - ForumsHQ

I know this has probably been tooken into consideration, and has been shot down many times before. What is the likelyhood of MajorMUD ever undergoing a graphical transformation?

Any ideas, or suggestions on how to get this thread started would be great. I like the game's story-line and I think if you could visualize and hear the NPCs and Mobs, that it could actually be a major software title. I mean, it already has a wide user base (well not really)...

I know people wont like the idea - Because it might "Kill" The text game. But lets all admit it, the game is taking its final stand sometime soon. One thing I would enjoy is the realm of Silvermere (and everything) be put into a graphical realm (Similiar to Asherons Call, or Diablo?) and for all former MMud'ers to unite, and relive the great moments on a graphic based game.

I will admit - I hate graphic based games. But if I could logon to a game that looks like Diablo, and already know all the aspects of the game.. It could be interesting. I would love to be able to watch my own characters physical appearance change, not just his text description :) ... The idea of watching a character walk from town square to the giant spider in the dark forest.. Well it just interests me ... Same Realm - Just Pictures.

Yes, I know there was an horrible attempt at making the game graphical with that cheezy terminal. Don't let that discourage you- Wasnt that Metro's program? Shrug. No matter - I think it could happen... Wheather anyone is willing to put the time into it? I doubt it. But I bet a major software developer could have one of its drones easily configure a coordinating program that simply reads MMud as it scrolls, and puts it into visualization. Asheron's Call is an example.. My friend plays it, and I notice that its nothing but text scrolling in the bottom left screen... Perhaps split screen MajorMUD, and give it graphics so that all users can be happy. A universal realm of 1000+ players would be awesome as well (Seeing as how big Asheron's Call got.)

Anyways - Its just a crazy idea. Lets hear yours!

All the guys from the original coding and editing team went on to Ultima Online and Everquest. There's mad shit from mmud in UO. I don't think it'l ever happen.

People have been saying that for a few years now. I'm not convinced.

Friends and I started New Haven and Silvermere in NWN, but that was when it first came out and there wasn't much in the way of new tilesets or monsters. I bet if someone felt so inclined they could make a really bitchin' realm now. It wouldn't be so hard to make Mod1 and then build on them one mod at a time. I'm still thinking about doing it myself. Also, the conversations and quests in MMud are REALLY easy to do in NWN. If someone is willing to join me in this cause or show me where people are working on it, I would gladly pick up where I left off and keep going.

Was that called silvermere by any chance? I tried to get in touch with the people making it but never got a reply. I have been considering making mmud in nwn but until they add a fuction to say how many people are in a group, I cant do a static exp system, unless you kill something, and if you are solo, you get 100% exp, if in a group, you would still get 100% exp (or I could change it, but still, it wouldn't reflect the group's size)

No, actually it was a private effort that never made a single noise in the public sphere. I understand your concern for the party system you'd like to implement, but my question would be to what end? I suppose you could want to power level a character, but you could also make a private mod and do that. There would hopefully still be a sense of party in such instances as bringing the weak member along to Markus, him not attacking but rather being defended along the way. That would be one means for power leveling a character, and also to develop a party ethic. You've given me something to think about I guess.

Could you just have a max size to a party? Allow party's to only tool around with a certain range so that a lvl 1 ain't chillen with a lvl 50. Alternate idea base exp on percentage of damage?
