Ok first things first I am in the begginnin stages of startin a bbs.

I clicked on the SETUP.EXE file to start the installation of worldgroup.........and then i get this error box.

The top of the box says 16 bit Windows Subsystem



inside the box it reads as follows



config.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS or

Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate program.



two buttons on bottom of box Close and Ignore..either button terminates the setup.



I am runnin Windows XP. My computer is fairly new. I have installed this same worldgroup before with no problem approx 8 months ago. I manually deleted all the files and did not uninstall it. I dont know if this has anything to do with this error, but if

any of you have any suggestions or ideas I would much appreciate it.

Error Message When You Install or Start an MS-DOS or 16-Bit Windows Based Program

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition



16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem

path to the program that you are trying to start or install

C:\Winnt\System32\config.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.



Although you may be prompted to quit the program or ignore the error message, either selection makes the program quit.



--CAUSE--



This issue may occur if one or more of the following files are missing or damaged:



Config.nt

Autoexec.nt

Command.com



--RESOLUTION--



To resolve this issue:

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:



expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\command.co_ c:\windows\system32\command.com

exit



Start or install the program. If the issue is resolved, do not complete the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, go to the next step.

Note: The Command.com file is not edited or created in this in the following process. Because of this, you may have to expand it from your Windows XP CD-ROM.



Start Notepad.

In Notepad, type the following entries: dos=high, umb

device=%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\himem.sys

files=40

On the File menu, click Save As.

In the File Name box, type Config.nt, and then click Save. Close the Config.nt file.

On the File menu, click New.

In the new blank document, type the following entries: @echo off

lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\mscdexnt.exe

lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\redir

lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\dosx

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330 T3

On the File menu, click Save As.

In the File Name box, type Autoexec.nt, and then click Save. Close the Autoexec.nt file.

Start Windows Explorer. Locate the Config.nt file, right-click the Config.nt file, and then click Copy.

Right-click the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 folder, and then click Paste.

Locate the Autoexec.nt file, right-click the Autoexec.nt file, and then click Copy.

Right-click the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 folder, and then click Paste.

Locate the Command.com file, right-click the expanded Command.com file, and then click Copy.

Right-click the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 folder, and then click Paste. Restart your computer.

Error Message:

Explanation:

There is a problem with either CONFIG.NT or AUTOEXEC.NT. When NTVDM starts up, it edits these files to meet the requirements of MS-DOS and 16-bit Windows. If you get this message, NTVDM was not able to make all the edits necessary to meet all of those requirements.



User Action:

Contact your system administrator.

dan did you install WG on the same OS as last time?



what version of WG are you installing?



perhaps try with a fresh copy of WG (not the one you already have)

gibberish? ... it's the exact error and posted by the company that writes the software. it makes perfect sense too. wg is still based on old architechture and windows xp is not. the problem is based in NTVDM which processes the older software architechture.

ok I am runnin windows xp home....I did your checks

i have the config.nt files and the autoexec files...but my search cant find the command.com file...so I am assumin that is the prob



however i dont have the slitest clue where my xp home cd rom is...would copying over the command.com from another computer jack mine up?

no, just make sure they are both windows xp home and both at the same service pack level.

Your the man syntax....my computer works cherry now.
