setting up socks through winxp firewall [Archive] - ForumsHQ

I am using the M$ ics firewall that came with XP.
Can I setup socks4/5 through this?
I have added port 1080 and the computer running it, but I cannot seem to use this on other computers on my local network. I have the name as SOCKS5 ip 192.168.xxx.xxx and tcp port 1080. Do I need to set this up differently? Or am I better off using a third party program to handle socks?

I never use the XP firewall, get nortons or something.

yeah xp firewall is horrible, i haven't seen any way to customize it

192.168.x.x ... is.... all... computers... Has nothing to do with the router.

Speed is right, that is a standard network ip format...doesn't change when you use a router, a switch, a proxy, etc. Only changes to different format if it's connected directly to the net as part of a domain or something like that.

Thats how my network ip is, but you can change it to whatever you want.

192.168 is universal, it is reserved for local use. Try to change it, see what happens. It won't work. You have to use 192.168.x.x. Every router connected to the internet is assigned an IP address based on provider, location, etc... and you can not use one that is already taken, which is why 192.168 along with many others were reserved for local administrator use.
