Does popup advertising really work? I tend to close most popups immediately after they open..very rarely do they actually load up in time for me to even see the image intensive ones, and the text ones just have ugly color schemes that want me to look at them less anyway.



I would much rather view a site with banner ads, as long as they are medium/small and not obstructing content. Usually sites that go banner, have the banner at the top or bottom of the page.

The top is a good place, as it will be the first thing in the viewers sight, however, sometimes the images don't load fast enough, and they slow down bandwidth loading while other content could be loading. The ones at the bottom just don't get seen enough.

Why not just make smaller ones and put them in sidebars?

I downloaded the Pop-up stopper companion from www.panicware.com and I find it to be a very nice simple to use program the stops alot of pop-ups. SOME do get through but it blocks 99% of all pop-ups. Its also easy to turn on and off so if it blocks something you NEED to pop up simple turn it off and then turn it back on when you done.



I enjoy it, try it out..

I once read an article on popup ads, and bulk email. I have since forgotten the figures they used, and I can not locate the article any more. I think it was something like .01% of all traffic purchases services through popup ads. About 10% of people actually click a good bit of the popup ads they see. The majority of people that click the ads are the majority of computer users out there. The computer illiterate ones. The ones who think the internet does not work without AOL, and things like that. That is who the majority of people that get on computers is, we just don't see very much of them, since we aren't computer illiterate.



I don't really have a point, I'm just saying that for companies, popup ads work wonders. They generate a good deal of profit, just from people perusing sites. I've clicked popup ads, and yes, I have purchased stuff through popup ads. I've been checking out game sites and all of a sudden a popup will come up for a new game that just got released that I wanted to buy last year, but forgot about it til now.



I hate popup ads, and yes, I do wish they would go away. This will not happen though, until anti-popup measures are incorporated with future releases of popular web browsers. Then, companies will just find a new way to stream countless amounts of crap they want you to buy at you.
