Ok, I'm still in the dark ages with my fast as hell 56kbps dial-up connection. Just upgraded to XP Pro, was running Win98 prior, never had any problems with my connection. Now, however, after about 20 minutes of surfing/whatever my connection seems to stall, as I'm unable to send or recieve any information. I have to disconnect and reconnect constantly and it's downright f-ing annoying. Also having a problem activation my copy - it's legit - but every time I try online activation it tells me it's "not possible at this time". I really don't want to have to call Microsoft and talk to their customer service about it, but if I have to I will. With only 12 days left till windows doesn't work anymore, I'm getting frantic. So any solutions to either one or both of these problems??
I've tried deleting my connection and setting it up again, removing modem and re-installing it, and nothing seems to help the problem. I seem to remember having the same problem with windows 3.1, it had something to do with US Robotics Rockwell modems I believe, but it seems like XP should have no problems at all, right?

Might be an ISP problem, who do you use? Did you run an "Upgrade to Windows XP" or a fresh install?

Ran an upgrade.. Never had a problem before I switched to XP. U know what's funny, I'm sposed to get married this year right below Gates' house on Victoria Beach in Cali.. I'll just have to knock on his door and ask him wassup hehe.. I guess I'll switch out the modem and try a different brand.

my connection on my broadband froze for awhile, then i realized the modem shut itself off 10+ times a day. if you have a cable modem, it could be that the power supply just got bad... they gave me a new power supply now it runs like an african man

god damn ray pay attention. He's using a regular modem, not a cable modem. Fuck, don't even read the post, read the first line at least before talking.

hehehe.... I might just be high, but that was funny.
And an update - just switched out to the gayway OEM modem that was used with this motherboard and xp pro prior to it being frankensteined with all my other stuff. All I've noticed so far is a faster connection speed, but we'll see if it stalls out as well. Thanks for the input, all.
p.s. I had to edit this post 3 times to get it right. god bless humboldt :thumbu:
