Has anyone ever noticed that these days people dont want to learn anything they just want things handed to them? For those that dont know, I am currently doing tech support at an ISP for a resume builder so I can go get a better job. I had a lady call in last night and had NO IDEA what drive was her dvd rom drive and what drive was her cd rom drive and wanted me to tell her. Well after many calls such as this one I finally flipped. I told her I cant help her and she needs to read her manual and read all the information that came with the computer so she learns something. I told her what I can do for her and after that shes on her own. Regardless she understood what I told her and said thanks after I set her up for internet access.



I feel that people need to be screened before they are able to purchase a computer to save the sanity of the poor ladies and guys that have to deal with this absolute idiots on the phone that dont know what the computer mouse is from thier a$$hole. We all followed a ritual when we turned of age to drive, the majority ran out and sat down and had to PASS a drivers test in order to get a piece of paper that allowed us to drive an expensive piece of machinery. WHY THEN dont people need to take IQ or comprehension tests in order to own a computer. a GOOD computer still costs around 2 grand. Sure you can buy a new dell now for 500 bucks but they are garbage. You could take that 2 grand a buy a car as well (yes you can buy cars for 2 grand in the newspapers) but in order to drive that car (legally) you need a DRIVERS license so I think people need COMPUTER licenses.



I dont understand how people can just sit on thier asses and not be willing to learn something. I enjoy downloading some new software and "registering" it then playing around with it and learning what it does and how it can help me. I know most of you are probably the same way as well.



I dont know if any of this makes any sense im just blowing off steam but I thought id share my ramblings and see if anyone feels the same way I do.

You had the same amount of knowledge when you started computers. So did I. So did everyone else. It's something that is gained from experience. Yeah, it would have helped if she had gone to a class and whatnot and learned about things beforehand, but she's not operating a vehicle that could cause the death of dozens of people with one false move. Sure, not everybody gains knowledge as fast as others, but you shouldn't exclude them just because they don't know their cdrom from their dvdrom.

When I started using computers and had no clue about them, I didn't call the tech support to tell me which floppy drive was A or B (back in the day of dual 5-1/4" drives and a 20meg HD hehe).

If I didn't know it, I figured it out myself..Tech support has more important things to do...like help someone install Winbloze
