Ok, for my wonderful Christmas Present I received a new video card. A 64 MB radeon 7500 PCI Graphics card. Now how they hell would i got about installing it. I tried to plug it in and do it that way but the screen just shows up black and with a self test thing for the monitor. I cant get how to disable the onboard video card and i cant do it through BIOS and i cant do it through the device manager in windows 2k. Anyways any thoughts or ideas would be very helpful. Thanks ;)

:wizz: Compaq

Ok if its not listed in the BIOS that means theres a jumper to disable it somewhere. Open your case and tell me what series and model motherboard you have and ill look it up for you.

Open up the side(top?) of your case to reveal the Motherboard, usually the identifying marks are located either A: Between the PCI Slots or B: Somewhere around the CPU.

ATTACHED EXAMPLE:

In this example, its called ABIT(Manufacturer) NF7(Series of Mobo).

Im not sure exactly about the setting in BIOS but..

Your going to be looking for something that says

Video: Onboard

Switch that to Video: PCI

Do this BEFORE you put in the new card and then after youve saved the settings in BIOS, power down youre computer, install the video card and then reboot.

I dont believe its a card issue, but he says he has "Onboard Video" so i want to be able to point out EXACTLY which jumper for him to switch to minimize possibilities of malfunction or mobo failure. Its probably either A: Compaq's Propriatary BIOS or Phoenix BIOS (I doubt)

Well in Bios the setting under advanced, pci sometihng or other is like this:

[ONBOARD] VGA Controller IRQ 3

[ONBOARD] USB Controller IRQ 11

[ONBOARD] SMBus IRQ 5

[ONBOARD] Audio Device IRQ 5

Slot1 Audio Device IRQ 3

Slot2 Ethernet Controller IRQ 5
