How about a change?

Everyone please give me your feedback. I found the source code for a rehauled Dikumud, called EmlenMud from Owen Emlen. If anyone has ever played it, lemme know, and you don't really need to read the rest. The game is set up simple, just like every other mud, kill monsters get experience. There are a couple twists. I haven't played it in years, but I'll try to do my best explaining.
The significant difference between other muds, is that it's heavily PVP oriented. The game would not exist without PVP. When you create your character, you have to choose a side, black or white. When you choose a side, you are placed in your respective home town and you get to play. Your hometown has guards who attack anyone from a different color. The realm would be expansive, the size of majormud or bigger. There is -NO- global interaction with another color in the game. You don't see them on the who list, you don't see them on gossips, you don't see shit. (I can add a channel for inter-color out of character talking and an optional who list that shows everyone, in case comes to be a large problem, it shouldn't with a large enough playerbase). If you are a white, and they are a black, and they come into your room, they show up as something like this (Again, I haven't played in years, so I can't fully remember)
A !& large troll &! enters the room.
and all you would see is large troll, you'd have to engage on troll. That is, if it's a troll. If you kill them, you get a killpoint, which can be used for remorts and quests later on in the game. There is a top list for the most kills, stuff like that.
Experience is gained by two ways, every single time you hit a monster you gain combat experience. When the monster dies, you gain monster experience. You don't get either of these experience points until the monster fully dies.
There are a bunch of ways to combat, special techniques (kick, tackle, etc..) and different combat styles. You can get knocked to the ground and you have to groundfight, cool shit like that.
Spells are interesting. To cast spells, you have to be holding a gem of the same element. If you want to cast a fireball spell, you have to be holding a red gem. The more powerful the gem (they can be anywhere from dead to bright), the more powerful your spell can be. Some spells can only be cast with bright gems. After time, your gem will fade, and you'll have to pick up a new one. Gems are rare early on, and expensive later on, but they make the game interesting for spellcasters.

I just remembere
There is an overhead mapping feature, a better and extended version of sys map that shows up every time you move from room to room (you can turn it off).
There's a shitload of cool features over normal internet muds. I love this game, I'd play it more than Majormud if I could find one that was ran better. If anyone has any comments/questions/etc.. I'd be glad to answer. I'm downloading redhat right now so I can run the server. It's a work in progress, I have yet to be able to compile the code so it's gonna be a month or so before the ball gets rollin. Would anyone play? I'm looking to get a large playerbase of at least 30 people, 15+ on each side. That makes the game more interesting, more and more people is better. I just pulled this off the top of my head, so I might add some things later. If anyone wants to know how an Emlen mud plays before they answer, search on Mudconnector for Emlen and you'll come up with a couple. You are supposed to purchase the license to run the mud from Owen Emlen, but screw that. That's why there are only a couple floating around. Rites of Passage was a big one, it had 300+ people on at peak hours.

You can also join guilds that add to things. If you join the Warrior guild, you get a bonus to damage. The Ranger guild gives you perfect tracking. Things like that.
