i am having trouble compiling and editing things... can someone give me a run-down on how i would get started editing and such?

First off,make sure redux is installed in its default directory, second,make sure its pointing to the worldgroup directory (default is C:\Program Files\Galacticomm\Worldgroup Server\) then edit while on or offline,when your done editing tell it to compile the new database.

it's got my items all messed up... there are no actual item names in the list

I've found that updates won't take effect if you close wg and restart the server until you close nmr. Maybe it's just me though.

i have been able to apply updates as long as the server is offline, and i can leave NMR open. but i have also found that if the new monsters i create arent regenning properly, to wait until it finishes the update, then run a cleanup. BAM..regen fixed. i am new at this as well so people that already knew all this can disregard, but its good for newbies (myself included) to know.

I've had very few prob's updating. I don't even use the compile function. It just automatically adds the changes to the files. Just have to restart the server - a lot quicker than having to run an update - what is the advantage to using the update anyways? Is it just for mudops who edit a bbs w/o having direct access to the cpu?

compiling the update helps out with monster regen and shop regen. Other than that I couldnt really tell ya. I do it every time, just because. It only takes a few minutes. Better safe than sorry.

the update does shop regen among other things without it your shops wont regen at all.. also i dont think monster items will regen after the first timw without the db update..
