well ive found some more crazy problems with new stuff... i do all of my editing on a test system and then compile updates to send to the bbs... im pretty sure that when the realm finishes the database update the dats should match whats in the wccupda2.file exactly.. well this isnt the case. heres a few problems i noticed without looking for any..

-the wccmp002.dat files does update, it will add new rooms and overwrite any that have been changed, but it will not remove rooms that have been deleted..

-the wcctext.dat files doesnt update at all, i have to manually copy the dats every time..

just wondering syntax if maybe theres a problem with the way nightmare compiles the database update... the game doesnt seem to handle them well..

I don't think the update file would remove rooms, or any record for that matter. Does the update file remove items/monsters/etc when it runs through if they don't exist? If it were to delete a room while someone was standing in it... what would happen, heh?

It does update the textblocks. I tested this by adding a command ("suck cock:checkitem 1415 1114:message 2673:adddelay 4:random 9121") to the graveyard digging textblock #9120. I put that in, compiled the update, and then took it out. Booted the BBS and then waited for the "Automatic Database Update Complete" (not the "Maps updated") in the audit trail. Then went to the graveyard enterance room and typed "suck cock" and it returned "Nothing Happened" like it should, since I didn't have a shovel. I also checked the textblock and the command was back in there.

I definately think the problem with the monsters has something to do with the DLL. I checked out dxpac's dats, and even just copying a normal room and normal monster and then only changing the groups and indexes produces the same problem (no regen and a "Check mongen stats room:xxxx map:x" in the audit trail). So it really seems like something it just not allowing it to regen.

as long as ive ever done updates the dat files have always turned out to match the update file... and that does including removing rooms and other entries in other dats... If someone is in the area, i think it will just skip it and get it when the update runs at cleanup.. that the way 1.11g worked...

take a look again at how im doing things syntax.. i DO NOT edit things on the main server and then just run it and see if it worked... i edit on a mirror and then copy the upda2.dat over... try doing a few text blocks like that... when u tried (you didnt specify) but i imagine you edited the text dat, compiled a update and ran the bbs... of course it will work that way the dat was already updated by you with nightmare..

if you have time could you try a edited update on a stock realm? id bet a good amount of cash that not everything will update right...

I will experiment some more and I will put trying that with a fresh realm on my to-do list. But with my test the update file DOES update the textblocks like it should. So I don't think nightmare is compiling the file incorrectly. What you're doing is abnormal and very untested. Metro never puts out updates that are just the wccupda2.dat for people to use.

Call me retarded and i can be at times, but is it possible its maxing out the moster regen cache VS allocated resources? This is something i ran by DXPAC at one time but we found it falliable.

Wasn't that when you asked me about my monster buffer or something and I told you it was maxxed out? I think it is. I have it set to 30k or whatever it can be. I have a lot of edited monsters, but not 29k of them. Who knows. I don't have the time to test anything now that I'm back in school. I don't have the resources either. Anyway, as far as PanterraX goes. It helps to copy over all your updated dats too, the wccupda2.dat isn't gonna do anything by itself. :) It's easier and much more reliable to just do the edits while the board is up to the dats the board is reading, then compile the update, and go into the Mud sysop menu and do the online update of the wccupda2.dat. I used to use a copy of the realm to do edits, then ship everything over to the main directory, but many things were lost, like whatever was on the ground when you last copied the true realm to the mirror realm. I just started doing my updates thru the sysop menu a couple weeks ago, and things seem to be running a lot smoother. Just my 5 cents...

hehe. I hate reading DxPac's posts sometimes...LOL. No offense or anything..but you don't use paragraphs..is there such thing as a "run-on paragraph"? I know there are run-on sentences, English teachers bitch about those too often.

Hey screw you pal. I can type a paragraph better than anybody. See?

Not that I'm offended. I was only joking with you Platinum. Too bad I don't have more to say. This is a pretty cheezy example of paragraphs.

Not that TRUE paragraphs can be done here. Or maybe they can and I havent figure out how. Can't indent my lines! Heheh.
