Longleaf Pine

The Longleaf Pine (Pinus palustris) is a pine native to the southeast United States.
Today they grow about 100 ft. high. For the first few years (up to 12) they do nothing but grow downward. I guess the establish one hell of a root system before going though a growth spurt.
During this time they stay in a "grass stage".
