Clearing my name

Not that anybody frequents this forum anymore.

I used to edit pre-Nightmare days, specifically building for PvP boards.

People have said I "cheated" as Sysop. One of these claims came after I was playing around with sys conjure. I made spells to summon huge monsters around Silvermere to liven it up. Keep in mind these were 65K exp monster BBS's designed for quick lvling to PvP.

The claims about me hacking people's BBS's. They were ethical hacks, one example being was that I did ANSI for a board, and edits, had SYSOP key -- one day I logged on and they stripped my SYSOP key and kept all my work for their own.

Despite some claims from people that used to frequent this forum -- none of the programs were pre-compiled (who has heard of a pre-compiled program to hack abandon-ware?). The only pre-compiled program that was of any use was a buffer overflow that would crash WG 3.x - 3.3 if it was running HTTP or FTP services. Crashing does not equal hacking, and I didn't use that garbage anyway.

I never really ran a "normal" edited mmud, equipment was free -- or gold was given out. So really when I toyed around, the players didn't lose anything except their temper -- for no reason.

Anyway, glad to see the scene is semi-alive. I've made some cool friends through mmud.

P'z

all he needs for greatermud is bug reporting and qa, which a monkey can do.

the mud scene is basically dead, you're spot on.

Ok I understood Nightmare, and all the other tools that came out yrs ago....but Greatermud...Why have people gone through so much effort to essentially clone MMUD rather than just using Diku and having all the freedom in the world?

Wait, Greatermud is going to be a standalone, variation of MajorMUD, and repackaged for resale? It sounds like buying a capri-sun, cutting it open, pouring it in a plastic bag, and selling it from a lemonade stand.

I actually saw something about Silverlight being utilized on the Greatermud project page -- what a contrast of technology.

I must be missing something here. I'll have to poke around.

Ray - SQA can actually be difficult depending on who's programming, managing, and what exactly you're testing. But yuh, the bulk is usually just repetitious.

By QA I mean play the game and report bugs -- differences from mmud.

The "mud scene" is a couple of months away from having a new engine and telnet server released, one that has been in the works for over three years.

If you're not the least bit excited about a faithful recreation of a game you presumably played for years, and the prospect of active development with a capable coder, I have to question why you're still posting here on a MajorMUD forum? Or do you just enjoy crapping on everthing and everyone with your negativity?

Only problem is you are about 8 years too late

Most of the new boards you see these days only get maybe 20 users (at the most) BUT the funny thing is more than half are dupes.
