For the first discussion, I would like to start out with a huge topic...the Universe.

Post your ideas, theories, thoughts and ideas http://mmb.forumshq.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif

Scientists have proven that the universe is constantly expanding. Do you believe in the big bang, or the biblical creation story. Would you explain the logic of which ever one you believe?

Heres what I think...the universe was created from a single point, created in an instant, and caused the explosion pushing everything outward infinitely. I think eventually the universe will stop expanding, and start retracting in on itself again, until it has come back to one point in the center of the all and nothingness. Then will just explode and start again, completely different each time, infinitely.

Is there a God? There has to be! I just don't think that any of this could be without some kind of higher being!

Do you think we are the only race in the universe? I don't think so...how could we be so niave to think that we are the only race in a universe so large that the hubble space telescope is STILL mapping the skies at a millimeter at a time, and it's been up there for over 10 years (albeit some of those years it was blind hehe).

Just some basic thoughts for you to chomp on, post some ideas...toke up, think about it, write, let us know what you think...this is the place for just such discussions...and if you think of something you would like to discuss or just say, please, come here, and tell your friends! http://mmb.forumshq.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif

we have been blowing things up for years and years, i don't recall ever hearing about an bomb or star blowing up twice. What is fact is that every little proton ever atom every quark, (all that shit) decays away into nothingness. One day in billions apon billions of years the universe will be so cold, dark, and big, nothing will exzist.

We humans have a duity to this univers, and that is to get off this dying rock and share what ever we have learned with the rest.

is there a god? maybe. is their other life out there? or did god give us this whole univers as our playground?

I think we are rather niave to think that we are the only ones in the whole big universe. As Kix says, lets go out and share what we have learned with the rest of the universe? I'm sure that is not a good idea in and of it's self.

Why? What good have we really done on this "dying rock." And, is it dying because of us, or in spite of us? I believe it is because of us. Which in and of itself sparks a whole new philosophical thread.

I myself believe in God, but I feel more like we are an "experiment" that God Himself is watching. And, I also believe God has other "experiments" going on all over the universe. Giving each a different set of "rules" to live under. Rules being natural/phyisical or moral rules. Anyhow, maybe we are really in a big race to see who thrives better, who expands farther, who reaches out to others first! I don't know, that is probably just a sign that I watch too much StarTrek.

It will be interesting however if we do find other life, to see who finds who first, and, how we overcome communication difficulties. The movies suggest mathmatical style communication because it is univerisal. What if that is not true? Just a thought there.

I could go on about this for awhile, but I don't want too. Do you agree or not? If so, please expand or if not, please share why not. And, is there anything to agree or disagree with here? http://mmb.forumshq.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile2.gif

Mathematics! That is the universal language!

No matter how you do a math problem, the answer will always be the same...math is pure logic and truth..there is no way to change it. The speed of light is the same in this solar system as it is in Orion or Libra.

As for this dying rock, I believe it is because of us that it is dying...until a few hundred years ago, it was perfectly fine, but when the white man started to 'civilize' the 'primitive' man around the rest of the world, things have just gone to shit...

These so called primitive people had no laws, thats what made hem primitive...they did not believe in the same god...they were primitive...yet with all their primitive ways, they respected the planet, the animals and plants on it, the people they lived with. They lived in large tribes or clans, raised their families in communities and had no crime whatsoever within the clans or tribes. Of course they went to war with one another over trivial matters such as territory, but that is an animalistic instinct, is it not.

I believe that those so called primitive people were more evolved than the people who conquered them! The people that conquered them, the white man, comes in and teaches them their ways...ways of rape and murder, ways of lies and cheating, stealing and greed.

I ask you...who is more primitive?

I will never agrue who is more primative.. the person who changes everyone point of view to match his, or the person that did as he knew best. I know about math being the truth.. i mean.. how many ways does 1 + 1 = 2. Or how fast is the speed of light.. Question though, i thought I had read the the speed of light changes around black holes.. or am i just imagining things. What i mean is.. black holes bend light and suck it in..is there any speed change there? I don't know. heh. stop it Spence, that hurts your brain to think like that.

Heh, speed of light never changes, the direction of the light is only bent and sucked into the black hole...and I don't know what the speed of light is, its just known as the constant c, as in E=mc^2 http://mmb.forumshq.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink2.gif

The question of who is more primitive can never be answered, as the primitive person will always take exception to being labeled primitive, and the evolved person would never label another as anything but another being in the universe...

Yeah thats it, blame it on the "white" man!

There is proof of the "big bang", and I believe in that. I believe in a Higher Power..I am not going to believe in any one religion because I was born into it. Who is to say they are right over another? Egyptions had a "40" commandments. They had do not steal, do not murder ect., also, they had a god/human sacrifice, saying that no one may go to "heaven" untill he is sacrificed.(sound familiar?) There are a few similar events (a flood covering the whole earth) that I know some other religions use. I think religion is corrupt, and there has been some Plagerism going on! Egyption religion was around 4000BC, thats right, BC! ok I am tired...about the universe..I KNOW we aren't the only ones..because I am from Pluto, yeah its damn cold on the surface..thats why we have underground camps! I have a very long coax cable going from a place in WA to my home on Pluto. I have cable modem http://mmb.forumshq.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile2.gif goodnight.

the speed of light differs in its medium. it is slowed and defracted in some media, and also it goes at a big fat 0 mph in some others (opaque substances). it is constant, but only in a constant vacuum is it roughly 3 x 10^8 m/s, or exactly 299,792,458 m/s
