Yep, i've been waiting for my carb rebuild kits for a week...called up the corvair underground and they said the card i used wouldn't work...after them trying it again while i was on the phone, they said they had the wrong card number....why didn't they call me a week ago and tell me this? where's the professionalism?

Unfortunate for me, i maxed the card i had on the order and had to use a secondary card for the shipping, prolly gotta wait till the end of next week till i get my parts now....argh. Of course, this had to happen with the only parts the car needs to run good.

I was at the Vancouver Classic Car Show & Auction last weekend. and on the block was a 1965 Corvair which sold for $1500 cdn. It was in good condition, all original (numbers matching), but unrestored, it needed a good cleaning, and a polish, the interior needed to be redone. But it ran, and was aircared (pollution control bullshit government scam). I didn't have my camera, but I had my phone, when I figure out how to dump the pictures, I'll post them.

That's what i'm talking about. It's so much more economical to buy an old car and restore it yourself. You get one hell of a car (they don't build em like they used to) and it's cheaper than a Brand new Kia. You can't go wrong.

With our aircare bullshit, its too hard to get old cars to pass, so most people here scrap them, or turn them into resto-mods. Aircare it a total crock of shit, unless your running a hybrid, or a dedicated N-Gas, or propane then those are exempt. Otherwise it'll cost you $24 p/year plus if your vehicle fails by 3 points, that is a total fail, and you have to spend no less than $1000. before it'll pass. and the work has to be done by an Aircare certified mechanic. Its a total cash grab government bullshit.

That's one great thing about living in the town i live in. Chicago has smog laws, but i live about an hour and a half west of Chicago. We have no smog testing here. As long as your car isn't pumping out loads of smoke, they'll leave you alone. They love to getcha for loud pipes though. I'm not really sure what the db rating is. old cars used to get crushed here, but thankfully, everyone has been doing really good at keeping them and restoring them. It's fucked up hearing you talk about n-gas and propane vehicles. I'm not sure i've really even seen one here. Our laws must be real lax on everything cuz we don't need em. Aircare certified mechanic...Why would a Airplane mechanic have to do the inspection?

There are a fair number of classic cars here, but people rarely drive them, because our "smog laws (aircare)" is a fucking joke.

n-gas is Natural Gas, its a by-product from making gasoline, the oil refineries usually burn it off as a waste product. Which is stupid, because it is a viable as an alternative to gasoline. Everyone needs alternative fuels. Gasoline isn't going to last forever. Look at Ethanol, its becoming a viable alternative to gasoline. Its roots started life as Pure Moonshine. :)

Aircare is what the call our "smog control" program. Has nothing to do with airplanes. We're suppose to "care for our air quality" yet, its just a fucking money grab for the government.

Down here natural gas is taken right from the ground like propane. We use it to heat with, cook with, it's as common as petroleum. The state of Texas had a bright idea a few years ago to make all state cars natural gas capable. That idea went by the wayside when they did it and couldn't buy any where hardly but austin. They then reconverted to propane.

The beauty of natural gas as opposed to propane was natural gas is in pipe lines all over every city. All a station would have to do is set up a compressor and start selling it.

The state made the restrictions so stringient that it was not cost effective to sell natural gas.

I got the order straightened out on Monday. If the parts aren't here by Friday, I'm gonna be upset. I've had this HellBent Kustoms thing hovering over my head for a couple years. A few friends and I talked the other night and are actually planning this club out. We'll be having a first annual piknik this year. Once we plan a little more, It'll be a good time.

The kits showed up on Friday morning...I rebuilt the driver side carb later on. A buddy came over and pulled off the passenger carb and broke the fast idle lever. I'm pissed, but he's gonna take care of it and rebuild the carb for me because he feels horrible for bustin something. The kit did not include the fast idle levers like it was supposed to. i'm gonna call and ask about that on monday. The warmer weather this week is really pissing me off....i wanna drive.
