DeathBlow review #2 [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Well, I am taking some time this week to visit DeathBlow, and have come away from it feeling very encouraged... here are some of my observations:

1) The operator, Daede, is *very* dedicated to the quality of the board. I am amazed by the amount of money and time he has poured into this board... especially being in the edited realm, it is hard to come by board owners that legally register alot of their software... However, he has definitely shown his dedication to some of the companies that have made the software he is using by taking the time and money necessary to register alot of these add-ons and modules.

2) The layout of the board is generally quite impressive. My first thoughts when I logged on originally were the same as Invisigod's, I was in awe of the amount of time it appeared that the owner had poured into making the boards appearence be above and beyond that of the other boards that are on the scene right now.

3) I was very encouraged that when I presented ideas and suggestions to Daede/Jay, that he actually *listened* to them, and even implement a couple. This is a very rare quality on alot of boards today... a sysop that can run the board 'for the users'. It takes time and energy to listen and implement ideas and suggestions that users can give you, but Daede seems to find a good balance and budget of his time to dedicate to his user base.

4) I had to mention one more thing about hardware. Reading through Daedes list of hardware and specs of how the server, mud, and related add-ons are run, I was nothing short of incredibly impressed. Being willing to invest in a connection and computer/server that is dedicated solely to the BBS community shows alot of loyalty and dedication.

If I could be so bold to rate this board on a scale of 1-10, I would definitely give it at least a 9.5. Even though I have made this board out to be absolutely perfect... It of course has the small things to be worked out that any new board will have.

Congratulations Daede, on a very thorough and impressive job with DeathBlow.

I stopped by there yesterday, while I was moping around and trying to keep myself occupied. Much of what Raiden said I completely agree with, though I must admit I didn't really stay long enough to have my mind changed.

I was shocked, however, when I got into mud and saw people TALKING! That's right, TALKING. :P

*bow*

Like you said, Raiden, it's a board "for the users", and as far as I'm concerned, that's where the credit for its success lay. As for the little things that could me done differently and/or fixed, I am always eager to hear suggestions, comments, rants, or whatever else someone deems necessary to throw my way :) Bring it :getsome:

Ghaleon, don't hate me cuz u ain't me :duck: Hehe, j/k bro. I enjoy your cynicism, derision, and razor-sharp wit in globals :owned:

Ari, we have our quiet periods :sealed:, but yeah, that's one of the things I love most about MajorMUD over all of the graphical MMORPGs: The constant banter, shit-talking :gun:, and flirting :naughty: that takes place. Only in text-based muds, it seems, do the players of the realm knit themselves together into a community of constant communication. That's the primary reason you don't see me running a WoW server...

Thank you all for the kind words. I'm gonna go back to sleep, now. It's cold and I have no cigarettes :-\

:yeahthat:

Note to Sysops:

A good way to lose users is to do the following:

Create a 'Tricked out' realm with a ton of edits, so people can exploit a number of bad bugs to win the experience race in the realm..

Tell your users this is their primary realm to PvP in, and open up the PvP range.. heck, Maybe get an infamous PvP gang like Damage Inc. to join..

THEN, (This is the best part)

Let a bunch of super-uber bug-exploiting characters go around with their bad edit job characters and script kill EVERY user in the realm in one evening, using the surprise attack round.

FUN!

I love when I get PvP battles like this; maybe it's from LACK OF SKILL? or maybe, a horrible editing job which completely contradicts a PVP realm.

Daylin critically attacks you for 356 damage!

Daylin critically attacks you for 235 damage!

Daylin attacks you for 35 damage!

Daylin attacks you for 105 damage!

Daylin attacks you for 99 damage!

You make a complex circling gesture!

A withering blast of dragonfire sears Daylin for -54 damage!

Not only did he hit me for 105 non-crit because of all of his uber max dmg gear, all of his gear has so much resist fire I actually heal him. COOL! When I tried to attack him melee, his AC and dodge was so high I didn't hit him, at all, once..

This realm is fun for screwing around if you don't care about your char and just want to get high level quick.. Not a good idea if your serious about PvP..

(PS. Not bashing DeathBlow BBS, it's still the best BBS around... this whole issue stinks tho.)

You'll laugh about it later ;)

I just have issues trusting playing sysops is all. Especially ones that join non-op gangs.

I'm not looking for an argument here. Just giving me 2c. So try not to turn it into one ok Daede?

Eh, I don't play in this realm at all. Haven't created a character there since I started playing in OOB. Abyssyml (aka The Ghost) is who you would talk to with issues about this realm. I have suggested resetting/balancing this realm several times, and the general consensus is that the users do not want it. Maybe some encouragement from people who actually play there would help sway the vote :)

That means a lot coming from you, thank you very much!

Iunno anything about what sysops play where in that realm. I know *I* play in a non-op gang in the third realm, but nobody there has any sysop powers, so it's an even playing field. I always appreciate your input, Ghaleon.
