Was there a wipe on 11-16-06? I was playing, the server went down, and when it came back up, my character was gone. If there was a wipe, or accidental loss of characters, please let me know.
I've been playing on emulated servers for over a year, and I know that this sometimes happens. It is a dissapointing event. However, if this is the case that there has been a loss of characters, then I think at the lease the admins should post what's going on, and post what happened in the log on information when u enter the server.
In any event, if there has been a loss of chracters, then I won't be playing here anymore. Although I realize that things like this happen. I think you have to get this server more stable before you put it online. It already has a low population, and things like this is not going to help you build a good community. I just decided to start playing on private servers again to see what 1.12.1 was like with the new models, but something like this reminds me of why I stopped playing on private servers in the first place.

I don't think this applies. I was playing on the new server, and I lost my character yesterday (11-16-06). When the server when back up it was gone, however, the server software was the same, so this has nothing to do with the new (ludmilla emu). It has to do with the player save information.

No, we had a SQL error in the characters database. I recovered from a backup 2 days ago and it should be working fine, I need to find a way to do nightly backup's o we can avoid these things from happening in the future.
And as I stated before, I have no intention of wiping the server for any reason, it's as it is and stays that way. As for the stability, this wasn't even supposed to be live yet except our old one died and I had alot of people playing that one, so I set this up early to appease people.

I'll help ya out here Invisi
create a new bat file 'mysql-backup.bat' and add the following to it.
@echo off
echo Running dump...
c:\\bin\mysqldump -u[user] -p[password] --result-file="c:\\backup.%DATE:~0,3%.sql" [database]
echo Done!
obviously replace , [user], [password] and [database]
open cmd and paste the following
at 02:00 /every:M,T,W,Th,F,S,Su c:\\mysql-backup.bat
That should be it.
G'luck bud
Also:
if you would rather the backup be named by the actual date instead of the day of the week (like i have it above) change
%DATE:~0,3%
to
%DATE:~10,4%%DATE:~7,2%%DATE:~4,2%

2 Days ago? So that means I probably lost 7 or 8 levels. I don't suppose there is any intention of restoring them? As I said before, I've played on private servers for quite some time, and these types of things happen. However, most decent servers either restore characters or have some limited policy for restoration depending on circumstances. This only makes sense since people spend a lot of time leveling their characters. Personally, I work during the day, so I don't have that much time to play, but I invested my time to leveling my character. I'm not going to go through it again.
My point is that if you want to build a good gaming community in light of the fact that literally just about anyone can set up their own server, or in light of the fact that there are thousands of private servers out there, you should have a policy on character loss due to unexpected problems with the server. This is just my opinion, but I've seen community after community lose good players because of this. If the policy is just going to be "Well, you're just going to have to deal with it", then I guess it's going to either take quite some time before you build a large community or you'll be limited to a few dozen active players and GMs.
I've heard all the arguments that private servers are free, and that the Admins and GMs get nothing for doing this. However, in reality nothing is free, if you're providing a service, perhaps you don't get any money, but you get some enjoyment out of it, or intellectual stimulation. My point is that if you want to institute a policy which simply writes off the player-base because of events out of their control, then I'm not exactly sure what the point is of running a server.
On the other hand, if you build a decent community and institute fair policies, then players will be willing to help out and support a server. So when it comes time to vote for your server or donations, you will see a favorable response. As I said, I do work, and in the past, I've donated a reasonable sums to private servers that instituted policies, but only after I felt the server policies were reasonable. In any event, that's my feelings.

Invisigod is one person you can count on to do his best to please his user base, inasmuch as his ability allows.
In any case, very succinctly said, Holley.

Ill agree, Invisigod will go out of his way to make the userbase content. He does work alot and has a busy after-life so you have to give the boy some time but he tries his hardest to create quality work and happy players.

I've already fixed several peoples levels so far and I would be happy to fix yours as well. Also let me know of the items or monetary losses and I'll do what I can to retrieve them for you.
