it's outperformed and unfortunately outclassed by NVIDIA's Quadro with half the ram. the card is designed for opengl accuracy and precision for workstation level content creation, ALIAS|Wavefront's Maya for instance. i personally don't like NVIDIA, but i know when not to be an idiot and pick a lesser performing card for the job. in my eyes ATI has superior image quality.

I do tend to agree with erek in some aspects, ATi has always had better graphics quality while NVIDIA has mainly led in the performance department, tho there getting real close in quality and speed now.

since most people are unexposed to the variability in these reviews i will attempt to clarify some problems. first of all a lot of review sites are very poor sources of direct revenue for themselves. so poor in fact that they are built on the idea of hand-outs from the big companies. now this creates an inherent problem. review sites that receive free hardware tend to have a biased opinion based on this generousity. now, from a non-ethological aspect, many sites perhaps ignorantly use non-zero based graphs which in turn can skew or distort the overall picture of what's happening. another problem is when review sites do not use apples-to-apples comparions or the latest available official drivers from the manufacturer. also NVIDIA and ATI have different default Image Quality settings in the driver from the get-go. ATI generally has higher IQ settings enabled over NVIDIA as default installation goes. you have to be very careful when reading these reviews. i'd personally go with a review site such as legitreviews.com which seems to be built on the reputation of using the latest drivers, zero-based graphs and very little bias.

I have read a lot of ExtremeTech's reviews... they are opinions of real world people using real world products. I especially like their reviews of things such as mice, keyboards... along with their bits about most bang for your buck. If I am looking for specs, and clocking info I will go somewhere else. Anything you read you should always approach with a bit of skeptism. I don't care about graphs or whatever.. I care about real world experiences. So that is why I post the articles I do. If you don't like em, don't read em :)
