WG email: inporting exporting

Currently, my bbs is set up in such a way that the sysop has to validate each account before giving them access after the user creates an account. In order to reach the person, I need to be able to contact them at the email address they give. I'd like to do this from within my server (ie- IN:user@yahoo.com). But ever time I attempt to send this, The email comes back to me saying "yahoo.com is an invalid ip address." I've tried the /host (domainname) thing on my board too, and allways get "invalid ip address" instead of a listing of the ip addresses associated with the name.
All my SMTP stuff is activated and the modules havn't been removed. Am I overlooking something? Even if I change the board to public and don't require verification, I'd still like for people to be able to send between the server and the internet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! If you need more info, I'd be happy to give that too.

Edit: Fixed DNS problems to get rid of "invalid" error. But now it returns an error: 501 syntax error in parameters or arguments.
All I'm doing is: IN:person@domain.com with a one word subject and one word message to test this.
