What do you guys think about the ability to make races in the game?

For example at lvl 1 your basically an outlined form until you talk to an NPC which then transforms you into the race you wish to be.

IE.

Dwarf

Elf

Human

Gnome

Halfling

etc.

And you contine on that path as novice for the next 10 lvls

Im just trying to get a feel for what you guys are looking at in your edits of RO.

I was reading some material about race changes and I ran across a dark-elf. its one f'in cool looking character race. White hair and black skin it was neat, they also had a troll with greenish skin.

Its good to be bored at work.

Personally I do not like the idea. But that is just my opinion.

If it's a purely aesthetic change, I say go for it. If it's something you want to do in-depth (ie. bonus stats, limited jobs, etc.) just remember that in the end, everyone would likely end up being the same thing(s) (i.e.- whatever's most powerful).

Im pretty sure its just a skin unless there is a way to change characters but then your right itll be like MUD where everyone whatevers more powerful. Id like to avoid turning this into MajorMUD as much as possible.

Zan, that is exactly why I don't like the idea. If I wanted to mud or play those types of games I would. I like the game just as it is. I don't want to add even more sublevels. I mean you have your class and you have your builds. The point of it I think (since it is gender specific) is that you are essentially playing yourself in a game. I'm not a hafling, or an elf, or a dwarf. I am Isla. I am a girl... and I have always considered being a stripper... so that is why I am going for dancer... it fits me. I am not a dancing halfling.

The option for being human is still there Isla. We're all old school mudders, and other races is what we're use to. Adding them into a MMORPG is second nature. RO is loosely based upon FF & EverQuest. I aint into FF, but EQ I know has other races. MMORPG's are directly based off of MUD, they all are directly from Diku to be exact.

Personally I would love to have an Half-Ogre Swordsman or a Dwarven Merchant.

But that is the point, is it not? This *isn't* mud... this is ragnarok. This *isn't* everquest... this is no other game but Ragnarok. If we change that, we might as well change the name of the game. You could call it Muddied Ragnarok. I know you can still choose to be human, but I think it ruins it. The point of it is to play "yourself." Thats why you can get married, have kids... you know the whole shabang... it just has a touch of fantasy to it. There are plenty mud like games out there, why do we have to change this one to be like them?

Funny how most conservatives, religious folk, the media, beaurocrats, and others all claim games are bad because people are escaping reality when they play. I don't play myself, personally. Hell, I like to choose females on my rpg's so at least I have something to look at, even if it's pixelated.

I'm not saying I disagree with you Isla, but the foundation for your argument is kind of weak, tbh.
