I mean spellcasters should have a spell tree where they can choose which spells they want to upgrade. For example this might be the mages spell tree...

Magic Missle

Pre-requisities: None

Max Level: 5

1: Damage 9-22@10 - 4+(0.5*lvl) to 12+(0.5*lvl)

2: Damage 15-30@10 - 10+(0.5*lvl) to 20+(1*lvl)

3: etc...

Lightning Bolt

Pre-requisities: Magic Missle Level 1

1:

2: etc....

Chain Lightning

Pre-requisities: Lightning Bolt Level 4

1:

2:

Sunbolt

Pre-requisites: Magic Missle Level 1

1:

2:

Fireball

Pre-requisities: Sunbolt Level 2

Meteor Swarm

Pre-requisities: Fireball Level 3

etcetc.....

So basically you learn magic missle as your first spell (or skill). After learning that you satisfy the requirements for learning a fire or lightning skill, lightning bolt or sunbolt. These skills will have a level restriction on them so you can either raise magic missle up a few levels, or save your skill points (tokens) until you can learn the higher skills. Later skills will be expensive to learn. Something like magma blast would require level 5 dragonfire and level 8 mana flux.

This would lead to a very interesting combination of skills on characters customizable by the user. I have no idea how it could be programmed tho.

Also this is based off the skill system in Ragnark Online which i played for a little while, there might be better systems out there.

I can actually think of a number of ways to make that work..I think it might be wierd looking if i sold spell scrolls..ie...like on a bbs every spell says you cant use..rather than too powerful....hurm. I like the idea..I wouldnt want mages to be elemental..thats for the druids..hurmmm...so interesting..i got a long work shift in the morning to think about how i'd like these things to work...I'll post an idea. I'm wondering if there is someway to get this information in a characters look desc...i doubt it..but..hurm...still very cool.. I'll give it a run...if it has any playablity worth I'll try it out. Playablility worth means like...would it just be annoying..or would it be cool..and do I have the ability to give each power set a justification for existance...Like a druid specializing in fire...ouch.. that could be rough..or should it..and i'm fairly certain I'd have to rework all my exp tables/damage %'s. On my bbs i'm making mana/mana rgen be very similar to base line..ie it sucks...but i'm going to allow spellcasters to whomp shit...ie i'm lowering all monster MR so that 50 is high..so spellcaster are both powerful..but still not overpowered in pvp.

Anyway..i took that past like 2 days off from editting..which wasnt as good as i was hoping. I got alot of drinking out of the way..cause i was getting really back logged on my quota but it occurs to me that there are simply too many things that can be done to make mud a better game. The ultimate fix for mud would be to downgrade everything cause most of the bug/errors occur when numbers are too large. I'd love to be able to make mud into a game that required some kinda thought but..thats just SOO much work. I've decided to stay with the regular dmg/exp lines just cause of the time it would take..but this has also made me think. I've got to set a plan out for what I want this bbs to do/be. There are too many things to do. I can't do it all, its just not possible. Maybe its possible as an over time thing but frankly its 50-60 hours of just pure database adjustment. I'm gonna make a master checklist for everything..Thats gonna be the end all..I constantly come up with new concepts, I just cant get them all done. So anyway as an update..I finished the warlocks. sooo sweet works out nicely..nice dmg..nice concept..my next step is missionary and gypsy only abilities, plus a fe wodds and ends..anyway..450 am..drunk..night.

i was wondering how long it would take you to figure out that it would never be possible to do EVERYTHING everyone thinks would make the awsome bbs. but...i think you will do an awsome job on whatever you choose to edit and i cant wait to try it out when you finish. just as long as its this year sometime hehe anyhow keep up the good work bro.

Yeah..i wanna shirk everything down..but that just takes too long.. and keeping everything balanced in in prespective is too difficult. That and them fucked up mystics would just ruin everything..cause thats what they do.

Currently I've run into a few major issues with some of my backstab formulas. I'm attempting a wide variety of different fixes to find something that works how in a way that I'm happy with. But as for now I'm gonna just completely ace all the work I've done with extended backstab content and go back the the drawing boards, several of the formulas excountered issues with large numbers in stats. I'm not exactly sure where the problem occurs but..either way..testing testing testing. Is there a reason that textblocks have to feel like a calc exam?

An option is to just edited mystics out completely if they are deterring your process at all. If the things you are talking about mystics ruining are not going to be implemented for time constraints alone, then obviously keep them in. But if they are a hinderance, just x em out.

or just edit the boots for them to make their damage more easy! i had a board and just edited the items and made their stats as need be but pretty much do it like a tank. just edit their wepons which would be their feet. so wam bam thank you mam!

Instead of mad ass damage as a thief with your backstab, and spell abilities to extend damage for a few rounds after you hit. If you're getting hit in the back, you can expect it to be painful AND debilitating. Some thoughts for these abilities could run along the lines of -hp/tick, stun, confusion, mist, poison, -mana/tick, -stats, -acc, -ac/dr, -resistances, etc.

I'm sure you could think of some unique things to add to limiteds, too..such as potential pickpocket of cash on a successful backstab, or -100 percep and/or roomillum for x rounds, etc.

Of course, this would present problems with balance when it comes to pvp, but I don't know how much. Well, that's the thought of the moment, hope it turned some cogs.
