Re: It started out as an idea
I hate the concept of limited items. Espesially in a system such as major mud where the first time you kill a monster, that limited item WILL drop.
Best way to avoid limited items and to ensure that outstanding items don't overflood the game is to introduce the concept of "rare" items. Basically limit their drop rate. That way, while only a few people will have the items, in effect making them almost limited, everyone will have a chance at them. This also makes the limited item policing a really easy job -- there are NO limited items, thus no real "hoarding" rules are neded.
For example, you want your Uber Warlock of the Arcane Order to drop a Crimson Sword of Ass-Kicking with stats so good it should be lim-1 or 2 tops. Make the warlock spawn once a week with 1% drop on the sword. Chances of having more than 1 or 2 in a game are very small, yet the item isn't limited, so technically everyone has an equal chance of getting it. Or you can always kill the guy who has the first one. :D

Re: It started out as an idea
i think i'm pretty sure that i may have decided :P
i think i'm still going to make the items limited... if i have a lot of users, which frankfully is doubtful :P, but if i do i can always increase the number of lims... anyway, i already increased the drop percentage by 4 times what it was, still maxing at 100%. I don't think there'll be any problem getting whatcha need, unless it comes to 10th level questors, but it's all good.
if you seriously disagree post it here, but like Rust said, it sux to just see it drop the first time, but that's why i've raised drop percentage. I might just make all drop percentages like 100% or something, dunno

Re: It started out as an idea
I don't see why making items with lims of 3-5 is such a shunned idea...ie adding 3-4 of said items and making the drop % around 10%. This makes lim 1's that can be used by all classes not extremely rare, but also doesn't make them as easy to get as those lim 10 items. Just my thoughts. Furthermore, this would still leave pvp as a valid option to getting items that may not be available.

Re: It started out as an idea
Then you're overflooding the game with good items and pvp for items will be largely pointless. Plus, then you're introducing yourself to the headache of policing hoarding limiteds.
You'd be better off w/o lims, imo. More ppl like that. Just make drops reasonable.

Re: It started out as an idea
yeah that's true... cheech does like to hoard stuff :P
but he likes to share it so... shrug dunno

Re: It started out as an idea
#1) im pretty sure monsters don't drop their item the first time anymore. i believe they changed that in 1.11k or something.
#2) if there is the normal number of limiteds with just higher drop rates, i'm not playing there. i like the regular drop rates with no limiteds the best, but rust's idea of no lims with low drop rates is good too.
