my parents told me to make my own choices thank you very much. AS for serving the DNC.... im Not part of the DNC.... not at all. I wont be a democrat or a republican.... too much corruption there. they all sound the same.

As for Hard evidence.... how about them 1.8 million barrels of oil a day were pulling out of iraq each day? who profits off that oil? The USA. Who drills that oil? the USA. Who took over a country for that oil? the USA (mainly, british troops did semi help). Im sorry you believe every word that comes from the Republican Party. Im sorry you believe in a president that was bound and determined to make up for his daddys mistakes and try to please him. Im truly sorry your mind is so colsed off you cant accept any other "Facts" than what you choose to see. I've watched this from both sides. Studied the so called "evidence" of WMD (our main reason for going in) and the human rights violations saddam committed. I just didnt see a justification to bomb a country into submission, then march alot of americans into a war they didnt want. I just wish the UN had the balls to punish america for its crimes instead of cowering in the shadows. Some of those sanctions we placed on Iraq for attacking Kuwait could be placed on us as a result of our actions. Only diffrence is, unlike Iraq, we wouldnt stand for it.

You want more hard proof. You need to go no further than Colon Powell. He told the world we needed to go because saddam was a direct threat, with weapons of mass destruction pointed at america. Where are your weapons of mass destruction? Even the republicans are starting to question that one. Colon and Bush lied to the world.

You seem to think you vastly superior to anyone who doesnt agree with you. that leaves you in the minority. Seeing as the worlds not buying the bush lines anymore.

And your point on Iran is rather improbible. America has admittedly had agents in that country for years. Most of them working to get the revolution started. Much like we did to communist russia... but then again, you probily think the history books are full of lies too.

Okay this is where the UN fucked us up. When we said we were going in to inspect em, we gave that motherfucker about 2 weeks to move all his shit outta the country. You don't think he did? We found the trucks, but they were cleaned out. I bet the WMD are all pointed at Isreal from Syria now. The Iraqis couldn't even hit an Iranian target, no way he could hit the US. Thats besides the point. He HAD them and thats enough for me.

YET you've failed to present any hard evidence of that. Secondly, you still can't accept the fact that Iranian college students are standing against the mullahs in their country directly because of the coalition war effort, next door, in Iraq.

Face it, you've been brainwashed by your candy ass liberal parents and teachers about how mean and nasty conservatives are. BUT instead of bringing credible points of view into the debate, you simply use blanketed, narrow-minded opinions, and those opinions aren't even original or yours to begin with. The shit that seeps from your mouths are EXACT carbon copies of the shit that seeps out of Tom Daschle & Nancy Pilosi.

You jack-offs are representative of how ass-backwards liberal thought is in America. You two sure know how to serve the DNC (Democratic National Committee) well. It won't be too long until you're burning flags, and your mothers' bras.

You still have that bib on. I don't sponsor either party. Neither of them strive for what's BEST for America. Your only argument is that we're liberals, do you have anything to further that? If not, you're wasting everyone's time by making them read your spam. Iranian students aren't doing this on their own volition. Only people that believe we live in a pretty pink world believe we don't have our hands in most of the world's business.

I'm a reformist by choice, because they realize the need to balance a budget, not overspend and sink the country into recessions that risk destroying the economy. You're the one that loves this partisan crap since it's all you can bring up. Bush is an idiot, as are you. Those are opinions and last time I checked, I was entitled to that. As for flag burning, I'm sure you'd like to put us into the socialistic rule that your president is pressing for, but that will never happen. You should get back in touch with what America is, because you don't seem to agree with half the ideals it stands for.

WASHINGTON, June 26 — South Carolina’s Strom Thurmond, the longest-serving senator in U.S. history, died Thursday at a hospital in his hometown of Edgefield, S.C. He was 100 years old. As a States Rights candidate for president in 1948, running on a platform of racial segregation, Thurmond carried four states. He had his most profound impact as a politician who turned the South from its traditional Democratic loyalties to the Republicans, a shift that helped the Republican Party win six presidential elections from 1968 to 2000.

I mourn the loss of good ol' Strom. May God rest his soul.

His death is no great loss, he was a racist who didn't deserve to represent anyone. He never regretted his supremacist ideals and gave a very bad opinion of the state of South Carolina.

I just feel like throwing a couple of facts out there to take the focus of left vs right and so on. three weeks ago, the provisional civilian administrator of Iraq said that the oilfields are currently producing 600,000 barrels a day, which meets normal domestic consumption. He said the rate would increase and export would begin within 8 months, but as of yet, not a drop has been exported since the fall of Ba'ath. A UN resolution says that any profit from oil sales in Iraq have to go to an "development" fund for the Iraqi economy, indefinately. On another interesting note, President Bush did not accept the advice of General Ryan and other regional commanders when they said another 750,000 troops would be required for peacekeeping and development in Iraq. Since the fall of Ba'ath, the national museam, central bank of Iraq, and national mental hospital have all been looted do to insufficient numbers of coalition troops to enforce the martial law. Whatcha all think about that?

I think that presidents like Clinton and Bush II need to listen to their advisors since they lack the experience in the military. The military commanders generally don't have a political agenda to fulfill like presidents and senators do, so they're not gonna waste time, money, or manpower where it isn't deftly needed. I mourn for the troops that die everyday and pray that our troops and the British stop being targeted.

No presidents listent to his advisors lately. they just do what ever the polls tell them will get them more support and go with it. For a while people were so whipped up by the propaganda bush put out they bought the lines. Now they are demanding the proof... from a creditable source.

The troops will keep dyin till we bring em home and stop trying to own land we have no right to own.... till then they will die.

I thought I would bring this thread back from the dead, because after 5 years of US occupation in Iraq, I am curious to know opinions about it.

My brother (used to or maybe still posts here occasionally) and I just finished a three hour convo about it. He is hardcore republican, voted Bush twice, and was so pro war, he wouldn't even listen to my obections, concerns, or even evidence (Downing Street memos) until recently. He has COMPLETELTY changed his view on the war and the president. It made me want to see how other people felt.

Living in the Midwest, it is hard to be against the war. You are made to feel unpatriotic if you say anything negative. I am against the war in Iraq, but didn't start out that way. It wasn't until the evidence kept building against this administration making up issues to justify a war, and possibly setting up 9/11 themselves, that I became anti-war. I also think it speaks volumes that the only places in Iraq where we have been able to keep insurgency out is around the oil fields.

So, guys...why are we still there? how long do you think we will be there?

just wanted to add: being anti war is different than supporting our troops. I have a cousin in Afganistan and another in Bagdad. I just want them to come home.
