He -can- get in trouble for copying Metro's items, descriptions, area formats, etc. I never once said he couldn't. He may be editing Diku, and it may be free source, but taking virtually everything from another mud -is- illegal, ESPECIALLY seeing as if he pulls it off, and makes it open source, it will damage their company. That's like someone creating and EQ clone and making it open source. It's illegal, I never said it wasn't.



I said he should wait it out and see what happens, and not worry about it. Nothing is gonna happen.

Every few levels the exp forumla changes i think.. I know one is around 24-28 where 1 level you'll need 3 mil, the next level u need 2.8... they did this a while ago, dunno if its the same or not.

I think by the responses I have generated in that thread (on pudcentral, linked above), I'm going to have to embark on a quest to redo my MajorMUD clone. Just to piss them off.



Ghaleon, how are you coming along on yours? Did you ditch the effort, or are you still going strong?

What a hoot. Mathematical formulas can't be copyrighted, or so I wouldn't think. If he were smart, he'd change names around just like metro, wcc, and whoever had it between them, to avoid copyright infringement on tolkieen, gygax, or TSR. Unless of course they had consent to use the ideas. Most of the items that are non-descript are not copyright protected. When they put names in front of them, that's copyrighted. You change the names, descriptions, and maps around and you would not be in violation of their copyright.

Changing names, descriptions, and maps wouldn't get the full effect. I am planning on taking the -entire- game, piece by piece, and making it standalone. It'l only take a month or two, I've already done most of it once and lost it all. I have plenty of time to work on it while I'm at work. I won't run the game myself, I'll release it as open source to every place I can find and let everyone else run it. That'd be rich.
