just understand it's not the BIOS that costs $25, it's that adapter for the matrix that lets you use a 1mb bios. you should really never need to use a bios over 256k unless you want to use the debug bios. possibly in the future there may be bioses with features that require >256k of size. i also don't understand why you guys aren't looking to go with an xecuter2-lite w/pogo pin adapter.

just do give you guys some advice if you do get a matrix:



you have to line up the matrix very precisely. it has three holes on the top that you look through to line it up with three other holes. they refer to this as the 'G' spot. when you are lining that up, DO NOT USE A LOT OF PRESSURE. those pogo pins are actually pretty sharp and will cut a thread on the board or damage the pad you are trying to line it up to if not careful. when you are moving it around, you should be able to feel the pogo pin slightly fall into the groove you are lining it up to. the chip should appear 'straight' on the board.



one thing you will most likely have to do is get a longer screw. the screw that you take out and then use to screw down the matrix just isn't long enough. i would recommend not even trying it with the stock screw and find one in similar width, but a little longer.



put the screw in and get it going with just a little space left to tighten it all the way (but with plenty of room to move the chip) and then start aligning the chip. if the chip blinks green in the test mode but you still can't get it to boot, the set of pads that all the pogo pins (except the one) line up to may not be level. you may need to use some solder just to put in some of the holes to bring the connection area higher to hit the pogo pins. that test mode will blink green even if ALL the pins aren't lined up. i think that test mode test the 'G' spot and some other pins.



make sure you get a bios with the 'friendly' error screen. thats what the .err is in the bios description names (IE. Evox2.6.err.ybox.etc.bin) cause if it does boot off the chip but there is a different problem, that will tell you.

I put an enigma in my box (never soldered anything prior to that). Now that was a bitch. The last 2 boxes I chipped for friends were matrix chips. It took about 5 min's each start to finish one they had the bios flashed on them. I haven't seen any of the next gen chips but if there are ones easier than the matrix I would be suprised :)

man im making my own chip, sounds easy enough and i can get the parts easily, just gotta be weary of the legs on the flachrom or eeprom. After that im going to flash my xbox bios with evox d.6.

Just wondering after i flash a bios onto the flashrom, can i re-flash it with a later version later on or will i need to get a new flashrom?



also i gotta get my hands on some torx screwdrivers, does anyone know any other tool that i could substitute for them if i cant find them?

That stuff is really Nice, i'll prolly end up doing that sometime, I Love my xbox, just never have the money to keep buying games! With you again Brunt, when i actually get money and can afford the right equipment, I'll load up a bunch of games on a HD, and boot it up with the good ol' work`n microsoft box(fatty Oxymoron right there)! To the begining of the messages, there arn't to many Live games to be purchased right now(or create image of). As the gamers grow so will the games as always!
