Grin Kai, just as long at level 65 im able to use a SAW (squad automatic weapon)

with teflon coated 7.62 ammo. :)

... When did I say modern guns? That's akin to saying, well I wanted to get a small kiloton nuke for the ravens in the park, but goddamnit, I can't.

Actually, I was more thinking to single action revolvers. Perhaps an increase in

ammo damage, and the guns being customizable, and you only get 1 (or the pair) and customize them as you play on in... (drifts off into coding land)

Kai, I think he was joking. Don't take it to hard. :)

Locke..your whole arguement with everyone who doesn't think that pirates are a good idea is that they must have some 'thing' with Miles, or that they're part of the minority..how is anyone part of what minority? What are you talking about? A minority simply because we don't post on Mudcentrals forums? Look at it like this - your whole idea of what a hexed realm is, is wrong. Simply put, SOME OF US have a very good idea of how different combinations of character traits will affect end-result classes. More-so than anyone you know who posts on Mudcentral - much more-so. Like I said, we've been around edited classes for years, because we KNEW the game needed them..why else would we add them?

The single reason I think Pirates should not be added is their uselessness. We've already determined new classes are needed to add new breath to the game, and that Pirates aren't the only idea. However, Pirates are the topic of discussion, so why are you so surprised that Pirates are whats being bitched about? Even if 1 bad idea comes with 5 good ones, it still isn't justified..especially on such a large scale as a new class. I could understand if 1 bad weapon idea came with 5 good ones, it wouldn't matter..but adding an entire class that won't help in any way is just a waste.

The idea of a Pirate isn't a bad one. You are right, they would belong in the time that this game takes place, and would seem logical to be in the game. However, the arguement persued is that the specs behind a Pirate make them useless. Theres nothing about them that gives the urge to play one over another class..that's the arguement people have.

Also - we really aren't missing out by not posting on Mudcentral. Although I may not post there often, I do read from time to time. The only thing I see over there is more useless dribble...people here post less pointless mud ideas, that's why theres less ideas altogether. Granted, some of the useless ideas can be read by someone who could take it and make it useful..but that's beside the point.

Another thing you don't seem to realise is that we CAN'T POST ON MUDCENTRAL. As soon as anything is said about hex mud, the person is banned. Regardless of whether you agree with me or not, this is fact, as they have 3 of my screen names banned for it. We can't argue about topics such as this because we need to use our experience as mud players to back up our arguements, and if we can't mention hex - where we go through more ideas than what gets suggested on mudcentral altogether - then we can't argue at all. And if we can't argue without looking like idiots because we can't speculate off of our experience, then what is the point in bothering with it?

There are a lot of good ideas being shot around as far as new classes..maybe better specs on a Pirate would make them more appealing, but as they stand now, they simply aren't appealing.

P.S. Heed the words of Speed, he's one of the VERY FEW people who know how to argue a point without being irrational and hostile, unlike you, Locke. I don't think I've ever seen you speak on these forums (aside from when you and Syntax are having code talk) where you haven't called someone something irrational, simply because they don't agree with what you have to say. You're an intelligent person, and it used to baffle me as to why you don't code for Metro..but it's obvious now, you're too thick-headed to realise that other people have good ideas, too.

Good post Plat, but I think the point that pirates would be somewhat out of place is still valid.

You start in newhaven, an island in the middle of a river. Ok, thats not so bad, you are a pirate. Now, where do you go after newhaven? You hunt in a forest. Or the slums, or sewers, or graveyard. You will eventually see water again, in about 20 levels, but until then, have fun being on land. So, you are lvl 30. Now what? You can go up the river to the northern forest. Whoop de doo. Whats this? There is an ocean area, and a ghost pirate ship area? Thats good. I guess the pirate will finally see some good ol' salt water at what? Level 50ish?

Ok, so metro will add in new water areas. Great, pirates rejoice. Are these areas going to be low level? The low levels go by fast enough as it is, people will bitch if they decide to screw over the high levels. So, they add in level 70ish water places. Now you have a problem. You have pirates, thier whole basis is that they live near/on water. On a regular, non-edited board, they won't be able to see any new water areas for a good month, probably 3 or 4 if they arn't being powerleveled. So, I think theres a problem with an entirely water-based class, which is basically a thief that lives on the water, existing as a playable character on a for the most part, land based, mud.

Also, they would not add anything new. I say necromancer, summoner, and morpher are needed at the least. Why? Metro will probably code in more spell types for them. So, we can now have morpher, necromancer, and summoner type mana systems, without having to double over on druid/priest/mage. Then again, they could fuck editors over on that too, but i'm hoping that will be too much effort. :)

I'd like to add, that Majormud was, and is based on D&D. I dont think I have ever seen a pirate on D&D. Thus, where the hell would you get the idea for a pirate? With the lack of oceananic area's, it honestly does seem that they spontaneously decided to add the pirate class based on Pirates of the Caribean... I dunno, thats just me, I could be wrong. But Locke, based on what I've been see'ing, I dont think anyone here is doing tihs because Miles is. And, btw, your the only one I've seen defending this class, how does that make everyone else a minority..just a thought.

I don't see why you need pirates to add ocean areas. Sure, if pirates are put in, they belong on water type areas,

The idea of a Pirate venturing far from their (single) Ocean is not very thought through. Do you think a Pirate would take the time to walk all the way from his fucking ship over to Khazarad and to the bottom of those mines? Yeah right, No sea-dog is going to venture away from his port, Maybe to the local Tavern at most.

Miles, you're such a fucking pre-n00b it's fucking ridiculous. I've offered up way more in the way of suggestions for MMUD for stuff other than Druids than you'll ever come up with in your whole fucking pitiful life.

Oh man, I'm pre-n00b? Let's take a walk down memory lane Albert my son.. If I recall you joined the Dial-up BBS I was playing LONG after I knew how to play the game, Infact if I remember right I helped you with alot of questions. Don't deny it.

Now, as far as your ideas.. Let's think. OH, You're right. You have suggested a thousand more ideas then me Willy. That's because you base your entire Life around your computer console. Don't try to Deny it. I always chuckle when I get insulted by an inflated Ronald McDonald, how is that perm now adays anyways? I am sure you still live down the street from my mother's house, where you live with your Mom, in the basement. You spend your entire days coding and thinking about nothing but MajorMUD and text-based roll-playing. Yes, I know.. Reality is tough. Luckily for you there is an easy way out by hiding behind the computer screen and using your sub-par grammatical knowledge to sound more intelligent. Since the day I have known you, you have attempted to type with perfect punctutation, in hopes that you would be looked at as more intelligent.. That is why I laughed so hard when someone that is actually SMART insulted your grammar skills. As far as my skills go? I could care less as I am not in a typing class, I'm in an ideas forum. I am curious, What College did you attend? Was it Harvard, Yale? Oh that's right.. It was the Spokane Community College where you probably finished a few English 101 classes before dropping out. Now, If you want to get into personal insults I could go into furthur detail of what a "fucking loser" you are, Or I could be nice and hold my breath as I have done so many times in the past. Willy, You are not the master of everythinig Mud, even though I know you want to be thought of that.. and That is why you spend your time making yourself well-known within the MajorMUD community..writing programs, talking shit.. You know, thats what Albert does. So, Go upstairs, grab another batch of mommies cookies, and go hide in Delphi, and read Thesaurus.com some more so you can try to sound smart... Because I am sick and tired of you thinking you are so much fucking better then everyone on these Forums just because you type with capitals and periods. Don't try to Deny it, for I am the *ONLY* Person left in MajorMUD who has met you in personal life and has the balls to stick up to your so-called notority. Now Of course I will be expecting a 3-4 page rant about how you are this, and you do that.. But of course it's all bullshit because you hide behind your screen just as most overweight reality stricken people do.

In other words-- you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, but you talk a good game.

Sound's like someone I know.

No, I'm not. You have a voice, your voice is in the minority and now you're bitching as loud as possible. Congratulations. You're still in the minority.

 Something tells me that the MudCentral forums aren't missing much with you not being there.

Funny, everyone says the same thing about you here.

Too funny.. My testicles are bigger than yours BTW. Why would you say that, You can't even see them without the help of a mirror?

(I didn't want this to turn into anything personal, but it did.)

Maybe you should take Mile's dick out of your ass first.

The grammar king does it again! If you were as smart as you claim to be Willy, you would know that it should be like this

Miles'

Hooray Community College dropout education!

And No, Everyone else on this forum dosn't like me, nor my opinions.. and I doubt my views would sway their decision in any way.

25-29: Maurauder

30-34: Corsair

35-39: Raider

70-75: Dread Pirate

I was really about to post a message agreeing that I disliked pirates. Then I thought about it for a momment and I realized that the only thing I really dislike about them is the name. In general there isnt anything wrong with them. Combat-4 leather with some bard abilities. They'll end up being a little like a mix between a warlock and a ranger. They lack access to 2-handed gear which will make them a bit weak past level 40, but over all with proper in-game supports like new spells and gear their abilities make for a vaiable class. The man problem I have with them is the idea of a singing pirate. But I suppose its possible the only problem with that is an image of what a pirate is "irl." I've heard the arguement made about pirates not leaving the water which maybe true, but I dont think its any more true than saying rangers and druids never leave the forest.

Incase you don't read the mudcentral forums there is a link to a poll to alter the name of the class. If your unhappy with the name perhapes you could voice your opinion in that poll located om the mud ideas forum. I've played on several boards run by creative members of the mmb community and this might be a good chance for this community to work as a whole to complete a project. I've been somewhat active on mudcentral's forums in the past and imo what would be needed to get the pirates revised is for members of the comminity to be pro-active. If we can come up with a suitable name for this class along with new titles and quest item names it would be very easy to just reuse the stats Daymia came up with. It also be helpful if the help description was remade. Even if metro's final desision is to not use the alter'd pirate mmb could easily make a sticky thread with information about how to quickly change the pirate class to the newer better version so editted bbs's wouldn't be pain stricken by it.

This is just meant to constructive, and if it seems that I critised anyone's thoughts I apologize. Anyone i thought that this was something some of you would perhapes consider

Thanks, DeathCow

Heh, I'm not even going to waste my time. You think you know me, but you don't, and that's the sad thing here. Long ago you met me once, and based upon that one time you've formed all these wild and amazing ideas about who I am and what I do. Like the little teenage piece of shit of olde, you're still all about making yourself look important, when you're really just a clueless n00b and always have been. Shit, you talk great crap in here, and I'm always amazed that even after getting shot down by people who are easily better than you, you come back for more. Yeah, nobody here likes you, probably for the same reason nobody on Boink liked you. The only person on there that liked you was Jason, and just like him, you were an attention whore who had to have it all. You two were meant for eachother.

I'll part with these little thoughts for you-- I do know more than just about anyone in regards to MajorMUD. I know more than Erek (I started him off on what he's done with regard to writing cracks), and I know more than syntax53 (and where he and I know identical things, I've known it longer). So to be quite frank, I can have this attitude because I've earned it. Why on Earth would someone who is an expert at something conceed an argument to someone who's clueless? Would you complain that a Math professor wasn't conceeding a math-based debate to you (despite the fact that you're clearly wrong to anyone as skilled as said professor)?

So who does that leave Miles? Who knows more about MajorMUD than I do? You? You worthless piece of shit? Nah, I didn't think so. You're just a poser and a hexing n00b, trying to get his legs, but never quite finding them because he rubs everyone the wrong way and flings insults like he's someone who matters. You bitched about olde time hexed boards and get flamed for that, and now this and you get flamed by me. Now you make it personal because you know you can't argue the issue on the merits, further solidifying how fucking weak you are.

Anyways.. I've had enough of this funny little discussion. For all the bitching, you've all accomplished exactly nothing-- Pirates are going in, likely as they were designed, and you can all continue to complain at length until you're blue in the face, but that's the cold hard truth. Have fun.
