He wants to know this so he can violate our copyrights further in his diku that he has been busy copying our maps and cutting and pasting our room descriptions into. Now he wants our formulas to make it an exact replica. That's ok, we're aware of what he's doing and our lawyers will be shortly.

i was just gonna ask if he thought about this. you cant exactly copy the functionality of someones copyrighted program.

He's fine. They have no legal leg to stand on at this point in the process, and will continue to have no leg to stand on until the mud is opened, at which point there are always workarounds.

unless he changes things around, they do have a leg to stand on. First and foremost, would be keeping a lot of items and monsters with the same stats/names/etc. However, a lot of the stuff they use is not able to be copyrighted.

The fact that he isn't distributing his MUD, and isn't charging for it, should help his case a bit I'd think.



If he's manually entering/copying rooms/monsters/etc from MajorMud, that may be a problem legally. But if instead he's using some sort of converter that uses the MajorMud files directly, *and* if those files are public domain in the demo, he might be alright. I dunno.

Well it looks like SOMEONE has been reading other forums that she would rather not talk about. Id like to know who use for a lawyer because with the amount of times you seem to throw that word around they must do ALOT of free work. I could always use a good lawyer.







... I posted that on mudforums. I am sure it will either be edited or removed but it was fun being an ass.

Base Exp = (race exp + class exp) * 1000 = The Exp required for lvl 1

For example:

Dwarf Ranger would be: (30% + 250%) * 1000 = 2800 Exp required for lvl 1

Human Thief would be: (0% + 80%) * 1000 = 800 Exp required for lvl 1

It's not x 1000, its x 10. Since when does 80 x 1000 = 800? Or 280 x 1000 = 2800?



Think, Ghaleon....that would have to be .8 and 2.8.

I said they have no leg to stand upon until the mud opens. Which is the truth, seeing as they will not have any hard proof that he is doing this until they get an address and can venture for themselves.



When he does finish, what he needs to do is make it open source and distribute it to everyone, since that's what the Diku license is all about. If he does in fact get it as close to MajorMUD as possible, and this open source free linux based mud is popping up everywhere, each system with their own modifications and an easy to use OLC (Online Creation - nightmare, but creating shyt online in the game), Metro will never sell another mod again, and they won't be able to afford a lawyer after time.



I don't think he can get it that close to MajorMUD, but then again, maybe he can. It just takes time and effort, it's not a very hard challenge to program.



Again, don't worry about Shannon and her dumb idle threats until something does happen. When that something does happen, then you figure out what to do about it.

shoulda been a little more careful on your grammar there if you noticed some of the previous posts in that thread :) ("I'd like to know who /you/ use for a lawyer" and it's "A LOT" not "ALOT") ... not that it matters but lets see if they flame you for it.
