Even in the BBS days they had scripting programs, they weren't as advanced as they are today. There were still options to doing something while not at keys.
Mud has been destroyed since the following months of it's release? If there weren't options to script in mud, then it would've died 9 years ago. It only survives because people don't have to sit and run by hand.
What I want to know is why Miles plays edited boards if he's such the "purist"? I'm anxious to hear this answer.

Ok..so we'd have a combat 5, all weapons (all class aligned ones as well) with every druid, priest, mage, and bard spell, platemail armor, and high hps.
Hrm.

I agree w/ Reckless.
We don't play hexed MajorMUD to play like legit people do. We play it to play the game how WE WANT TO PLAY.
That's how we choose to play, just like you choose how you want to play and bob chooses how he wants to play and billy-jo chooses to play how he wants.
If you don't like how we play where we play, don't play there.

No, No, Im not pissed.. Im just trying to prove a point, which in Plat you pretty much agreed upon, when you werent contradicting yourself. No offense or anything.. 1 char realms are way better :)

Im no Purist. I love edited realms your right, but I think its just cheezy when someone who has the ability to logon 3-4 chars to just to help themselves. I believe realms are much more lively when theres only 1 char per person and it can hold way more people, which means a better chance of people being at the keys, which creates a better Social Game, which in turn would make PvP MUCH more interesting. And to most players, PVP is the main purpose of playing the game, Not to make money.

LoL..PvP may be the main purpose of the game for some people you know, but not most mudders. Heh..hah..cough..*sorry im high*
2 char limit realms are fine for that. You saw how I logged on the other 2 for bosses? That's cuz no one else was high enough to do it.
Want to know why no one else was high enough to do it?
Because we started way before them, and had no competition.
Does this sound familiar?
So we were always 1-8..with a big lead. So if I was the only one around, or just me and porthos, we were pretty much screwed because we couldn't kill shit. Shaft isn't around a whole lot, so I made 2 separate chars that I also got high levels in case this happened.
After thinking about what I just said I don't know if that paragraph is legible. I haven't tried to re-read it, and won't for fear of getting lost again.

which is why I wanted a reset...which brings us right back to where this whole thing started.
Damn..pretty ironic isn't it?

You have the right to your OPINION. Don't assert that it's more valid than others. Matrix was pretty social prior to the crash, moreso than a lot of boards. PVP was 10 lvls and I never saw one single pvp encounter. It was originally disabled, cuz Plat, I and others don't care to pvp. It's a waste of time in my opinion, others like it so there's nothing wrong with that. The game was made to make money. The main purpose of PLAYING any game is to have fun.

time for me to express my opinion on this...
best reason i can see for limited number of characters per player is the number of actual players
if you got 40 players (unlikely these days) there should be a need for dupe accounts
if you got 4 players, you gonna need dupes to accomplish many goals
that having been said, i also feel that fewer instances per ip address encourages more player interaction
the trick is to acheive a balance between these aspects
:cheesy:
ps futhermore, many folks share ip addresses. in my own case, my wife keeps asking me to make her a character as well the one i make. coz she's used to the good old days when we could do that.
