How much would it cost to get a decent xbox setup? Like, Xbox, 120 gig hd, and whatever else is required to copy games? I could do the research, but I figured you guys had a good idea off the top of your heads.

Xbox/$200, 120gb/$140, chip/$60

and a computer w/ dvd-rom drive;)



Need a cat5 to connect the two



$380 for everything..I already got the Xbox, this week, I am going to buy that $60 chip, NO SOLDERING, just screw it to the motherboard ;)...and my fav online retailer, googlegear.com has a 120gb HDD for $140, 1 yr warrenty.



Then...everything else is downloading BIOSes, and flash utils, BE CAREFUL, make sure what you download is the real deal!!!

My question is..how do you ftp to your xbox? lol I guess it gets an IP address? Would my router assign it?

Hell yea, that sounds nice. I'll do that when tax time comes around. I never really like the xbox, but I played the new 007 the other day and it's a damn nice upgrade from Goldeneye. We used to play goldeneye for days on end on the 64.

So I can use ANY 120GB hard drive for the xbox? Since the games will be running off the drive, should I go for a good data rate?

That's what I'm wondering..is there a specific type of HD you have to use, or can I just go pick up any 120gig hd?

speed/platinum:

any hard drive will do, xbox is only ata-33 so anything above won't give you a performance boost. i have a seagate 80gb 7200rpm ata-66 (may even be ata-100) only because the price is usually cheaper for the faster drives.

when you put on the custom dashboard, it loads an ftp server (the custom dashboard does). then you can just ftp to it with any standard ftp client. though, "FlashFXP" is the BEST to use cause it is mad fast. I do have to use alternate ftp programs sometimes though (flashfxp seems to have problems with long filenames i think).

i believe "evox d.6" doesn't have the eject trick and "evox d.6 eject trick" does. some people have problems when the eject trick is enabled, but most people want it. the eject hack is a hack that stops the xbox from rebooting when you eject the disc while a game/app is running (usually only needed for something like a dvd/divx player)



as for dashboard, i use the newest evox. i have the nexgen but haven't gotten to trying it out yet.

yes you can. the xbox sdk was leaked and all sorts of homebrew apps have come of it, namely emulators. since the xbox is almost a pc, there are tons of homebrew apps in development.

Buy whatever you can get cheap (that is a decent brand). I know goroyalpc.com had some 5400 rpm drive for $122 shipped. I have seen a lot of people suggest the 5400 just because it runs cooler than the 7200. I have the 7200 (was $110 when I got it) and haven't had any issues of overheating.

You will need to get BIOSes for that chip though? If I get the Matrix chip, I have to flash it with a Matrix BIOS? Do you actually flash the XBox BIOS, or just the mod chip BIOS?



I am getting this stuff this weekend, I need to know!! ;)

So if I get a chip I don't have to do surgery on my XBOX, it just screws in? or?? I saw someone say something about screwing it in..and, where can I find the chip?
