Oh yeah?
Athlon 900mhz
256meg sdram
Voodoo3/2k 16MB video
linksys 10/100 eth0
30gig maxtor hd (.. redhat installation miffed this drive, so I don't have one atm)
generic 8/12/48(i think) cdrw
generic 12x dvd
generic floppy
15" visual sensations big ass crt monitor
shitty speakers
linksys router
cable modem
microsoft intellimouse
shitty keyboard
ooh and I have a cool ass equalizer
This setup plus an ATI rage video card that's burnt out right now cost about $1450 a couple years ago, and I still haven't upgraded, woot.

Well overclocking is a very good way to get most out of your money, same with AMD, you can't have anything from Intel that has same amount of a punch in it as the AMD $70 chips. If you look at the performance difference, yea Intel right now is more powerfull. But look at the price difference between AMD and Intel then you see that for %5 more performance (high-end Intel) you pay like %20 more money than a High-end AMD system would have cost you.
In my opinion all this should be about bang for the buck, as I don't have unlimited resources, I knowingly will go for the %5 weaker/slower, but it will cost me %20 less. and after I finish tweaking the system I will easily get this %5 difference and even get a higher performance.

lol, well...an overclocked pent 4 2.4...if you overclock that, then its overclocked, and if you run it at 2.9ghz, then its
but with AMD, if you take a 2400+, it runs at 2.0ghz. If you overclock it to a 2.4ghz, it now runs at a 3200+ or higher..I am not sure because a 2.167ghz is a 2700+(2.7intel).
So 2.167 = 2.7pent
So a 2.4ghz would be over 3ghz intel pent.
Intel 2.4 OC 500mhz = 2.9ghz
AMD 2.0 OC 400mhz = 3.0ghz+(compared to intels speed)
Its NOT HOW FAST IT IS, ITS HOW MUCH IT CAN DO PER CLOCK CYCLE.
A lot of people dont understand this. AMD does MORE instructions PER CLOCK CYCLE, which means it does more. It works harder. WHICH MEANS THE FASTER IT GETS, THE MORE IT GAINS OVER INTEL.
Now do you understand?

I read a few days ago a nice and I guess easy way to show the difference:...
Intel can be compared to a high RPM engine that will only go at a certain speed at very high number of RPMs (MHz)
AMD chips can be compared to a lower RPM engines, that will go the same speed, but will require a considerable lower amount of RPMs (MHz)..
Actually just to show the difference, here, is anyone here familiar with the FOLDING @ HOME DC project? (If not just click the link in the sig) this thing requieres a high power FPU and CPU in general. What I can say is when I was running the 1200MHz chip in my system I could fold (complete a work unit) faster than a Pentium 4 that was running at 2400Mhz. And this thing is nuetral to CPU design, unless an application is optimized for the P4 and SSE2, then yea, the P4 will be faster, but same is with AMD, if and application is optimized for its architecture you will get much better results. all in all when the benchmark (or real life application) has no optimizations, AMD will own an Intel at a much lower clock speeds.
In short, propably something you can't easily understand is "MHz IS NOT Everything"
Jugding something just by looking at a CPU, "yea this P4 runs at 2.4GHz, but the 2400+ AMD runs at only 2. SO I guess I'll take the P4, its "faster"", when actually the AMD will blow away the pentium in most things.
This just doesn't ciese to amaze me every time I hear this. Yea I do understand that the average person would not notice the difference between the two, and can't be bothered to dig around and read stuff, coz he wants a PC RIGHT NOW... But for people that are into hardware, its time to face the facts and wake up, start reading, Intel does no longer have the best offerings. The performance crown belongs to it, but the price:performance difference is still in AMD's favour.
Sorry for all the editing :p just didn't want to post a few posts to proove the same point

That's a whole lot of information...I buy AMD cuz they're less expensive.

hehe, AMD rocks...and for the average buyer, who might do research, as for price, but not specifics of hardware.
Thats like going shopping for a 4door sedan, only by price and a performance rating that its own manufacturer designs.
Intel runs at 2.4ghz
AMD runs at 2.0ghz
AMD does AS much work as a intel pent 2.4.(I am not going to into why again)
the ONLY reason Intel is so...big of a company and sells more, its because its like trying to actually start a company that develops another OS for PCs, and charge for it.(when EVERY PC sold comes with Windows) Most of PCs sold comes with Intel because Intel has the market.
The engineers and AMD are VERY SMART. They just dont have the funds or the market to sell like Intel.

For all those who say o/cing / modding is a waste of time and money....
My dual AMD board requires MP chips. Instead of paying a lot of money for the MP chips, i bought two xp 1600 chips for 60 dollars each. I then modded them and overclocked them so now they are running at the speeds of MP 1900's.
I now have the exact same performance as MP1900 chips.
If i would have just bought the mp1900 chips, they would have costed me 150 dollars apiece. Therefore I saved myself 180 dollars.

After I get my new motherboard and ram, and I might get one of the tbred 1800+s, I am going to do some volt mods, along with some volt mods to the geforce 4.
I have a 160cfm fan now
I have a 1000+cfm fan from a commercial furnace I found at work :):)
