I don't know if i mentioned that i painted the ralley wheel gloss black. I haven't put it on the car because it's got a junk tire on it. I can easily brake kleen the paint off if it doesn't look good, but i'm thinking that black wheels might look really good on the car. Any opinions on wheel color?

For some reason i was thinking that i could 2-tone the wheel gold/silver. I keep thinking that would look really good on this application. I'm eventually gonna want some newer and nicer wheels, but for the time being, i'm just gonna paint the ones i have and hope they look decent.

The spring compressor clamps that i had, made such little difference on the ride hight, i decided that there was no point to using them what-so-ever. The springs and shocks all the way around are old and worn out. Basically, i'm gonna want to tear down the entire suspension and replace all the old rubber with new urathane bushings, clean and powdercoat all brackets and arms, and replace all hardware. Prothane makes a kit i can use for a few hundred bucks.

The brakes work fairly well. There is a pull to the left side that feels like more braking pressure is hitting the driver front wheel more than it should. I'll bleed the system and see if that takes care of the pull.

I needed gas today, so after doing a set of drum brakes, I took the core money from the shoes and drove down to get some gas. The Corvair was awesome. This was really the first time driving it more than around the block since putting the exhaust on and jacking around with the idle. The carbs are doing the job delivering fuel, but they are kinda shitty. None the less, i'm extremely please with how this journey turned out. The acceleration is there, and when i rev up the motor, it drops back down to a nice idle like it should. It's clean shifting through gears. If i had tags on the back, i would've taken a longer drive.

I have a bunch of coat hangers that stay in the garage for things like this.

I've used coat hangers for two applications. They are both a temp solution untill i get a job to actually buy muffler hangers and levers. It's what i call being "resourcefull".

Plus, I don't have a job. Which leaves my budgeting down to zero dollars. Everything i'm doing with this car so far has been either funded by gracious souls or done with stuff i have in the garage. Whenever i can get a job, you'll all see ALOT more money put into this ride.

I finally got around to taking care of the passenger rear wheel that was leaning really bad. It just took some adjusting on the cam bolt and putting proper torque which must have been something that the previous owner couldn't do.

I think it looks so much better.

Yesturday, I finaly got the Corvair back into the driveway after having moved accross the street for two weeks. We got some roof work done and i didn't wanna have a hammer drop on her or something tragic like that.

Today, i buckled down and painted the rear light section. It was painted black with some crappy paint and was chipping away so you could see the old blue coloring coming through. I spent about two hours sanding everything down and painted the rear with a nice aluminum metallic. Then put one layer of triple thick clear coat over everything. I also decided that the tail-light rings might look good in black, so i painted those black along with the corner edging. I think it looks a whole world better. whatcha think?

This was after sanding with the black base to check the surface.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the job done considering the wind and outdoor painting. This really cleaned up the back end alot.

When i had the tail-lights out, i decided to spray the reflective area inside the lenses. They were copper colorded and old looking. I figure that painting them White will add some more reflection to the tailights. The lights are very dull when lit. One fix would be to get some Corvette tail-lights out of a early to mid 80's vette. They will fit right in with no holes drilled, plus they are alot brighter. I've been thinking about switching locations with the lights....putting the reverse lights on the outside and brake on the inside.

ok, so i've been wanting to shave the antenna.

It's big, it's ugly, and it's bulky. Today, i actually went for it.

My way of filling is slightly different from most, so bear with me. it works.

The hole that i had to fill was about the size of a silver dollar. With a hole like that, i'd usually reinforce with some mesh, however, this application didn't allow me to get underneith the hole, so i had to improvise.

The second application of filler went on smoothly and i could finaly start to see where this was going to work out.

The third application of filler made me glad that i decided to do this. It's hard to wanna actually do something like this with such an old car, but it's mine and i like it.

Now there are a few flaws here and there, but that's completely alright. The entire body is to be sanded down in less than a year anyways, so mainly, I was just wanting to get rid of the antenna and make sure it's sealed up enough so it doesn't leak or have a large gapping hole.
